James Garrity, MD

I was put in touch with Dr. Garrity by another doctor at Mayo to tap into Dr. Garrity's expertise. Dr. Garrity opened his schedule and fit me in which was extremely helpful as I was I the area for other medical evaluation. The trip to Mayo for me is over 5 hours one way. Dr. Garrity listened thoroughly to the medical history and worked to learn what I hoped to accomplish. He then recommended multiple options and shared the pros and cons of each approach thoroughly. We agreed on a specific procedure. He agreed to perform this procedure that day in his office. The procedure was completed successfully. Dr. Garrity followed up to concerns arising from the healing process that I had phoned in. My experience was very positive. The results of the procedure addressed my medical need well. I was impressed with Dr. Garrity's knowledge and concern as I worked through my problem with him.

Check dates of people rating him- Maybe was good in 2010 but has been going downhill since. I know I should have checked his background prior to him seeing my daughter but he insisted that we go in for the surgery the following day - the condition was at the point that immediate attention must be given. He swore that my daughter's eyesight would not be affected. She went in not even wearing glasses and came out absolutely needing them She cannot drive at night, blurry vision 24/7, puts in two types of eye drops 5x/day, has not worked since the surgery which is now approximately 1 year and spends her days crying. She is young and her life should not, according to Garrity (I believe he does not deserve the professional title) be affected at all Since she cannot get a job, she does not have insurance so cannot pay for any further help so life is on a BIG hold. When he said the office visit was over and he would see my daughter the following day, I said that I had some questions… and his reply was "I have other patients. I'll be here all day if I stay and listen to your questions". He left so we spoke with his "nurse", "technician" - whatever - and after a few minutes, he showed up at the door glaring at me - I invited him back in. He stormed off. Next day after surgery, a nurse informed us (after hours of waiting with no update from dr,) that my daughter was fine. I asked about checkup/followup visit. He told her to tell me none was needed and we could return home (out of state) the following day. We stayed at the hotel an additional night(and should have stayed longer - the pain that there supposedly was not supposed any of - was horrendous. We should have insisted on an emergency appointment, but were told nothing was available. Life ha definitely taken a turn for the worse and have no clue what to do to correct. Terrible experience

Worst care I have ever received! Left me disfigured, and in chronic pain. Seems he had no idea what he was doing! Strongly suggest getting another doctors opinion!

Dr. Garrity removed a massive cavernous hemangioma from my orbit. I was terrified I would lose my eye, and had been to Wills (Jefferson), Hopkins (Wilmer) and Mayo. The cautious conservative approach and compassionate, expert surgical attention and postoperative care was at all times humane and artful. I retained my vision, have a nearly imperceptible scar. I cannnot adequatety express my admiration and gratitude to Dr. Garrity and the folks at Mayo.

Dr. Garrity is wonderful. He is thorough, knowledgable, answers all your questions, and has excellent bedside manner. He knows his stuff. There is no doctor I would trust more. He truly cares.
