Dr. James C Gedney, MD

I went to Dr. Gedney for my annual pap in Oct 2011. The next thing I know, I'm getting billed by the hospital lab for running an STD test. I inquired with the nurse, Pat, to see why I was not asked or told about this test being done on me. After blaming both the hospital and insurance company for making the mistake and sending me on a wild goose chase, all roads led back to Dr. Gedney's office and Pat. They clearly marked the STD test to be run, which the lab did and my insurance didn't cover. When I confronted Pat with her mistake, her exact words were, "Oh well, better safe than sorry; besides it's ONLY $63 and you won't need to be tested for another 3 years, so you should just pay it." I repeatedly asked to speak with Dr. Gedney and was repeatedly told that he would call me back...which he NEVER did. Jo Ann B, in the billing department, assured me this would be taken care of and that I would not be responsible for paying the bill. 10 months later, I am STILL being billed by the lab… for a test that was never authorized by me to be done. I'm wondering if it's even legal to take a sample from someone's body and test it for things that were never ok'd by them.

He was not my regular doctor, but when my water unexpectedly broke, he was the one to deliver. He seemed annoyed that he was awoken in the middle of the night to deliver my baby. My regular doctor had advised a c-section due to complications and Dr. Gedney attempted to change my mind. He claimed my doctor's concerns were unfounded even though he had not examined me nor looked at my file. Horrible bedside manner.

I went to this doctor for my first pregnancy. I was three months at the time, to which he told me it was quite early to be making a doctor's appointment. He then showed irritation at me asking questions and answered only in short yes or no answers. I was on medication before I found out I was pregnant and he told me that Lithium (a drug not proven to cause birth defects) is worse to be on than Depakote (a drug that is highly proven to cause birth defects) while pregnant. He didn't seem to be up on the latest research when it came to what medicines were or were not safe to be on during pregnancy. According to him it was safer to be on a drug that causes spina bifida than to be on a drug that is ALMOST considered safe enough to be on through pregnancy. After he did the ultrasound he printed a picture where I could barely tell there was even a baby on the screen and took the first opportunity to kick me out of his office, doing this by pointing his finger to the door. All in all I would… not ever go to this doctor again nor would I recommend any friend of mine to him.
