Dr. James S Gray, MD

I have severe depression and have seen psychiatrists in Tucson since 1981 for treatment. When my last psychiatrist retired he asked Dr. Gray to take me even though Dr. Gray was not accepting new patients at that time. I am very lucky that he agreed to accept me as a client. Dr. Gary is the best I have worked with.

I'm bipolar and have been seeing Dr Gray for far more than 10 years. He is a kind and very professional doctor with a great sense of humor which comes in handy when dealing with my occasional lapses. I would recommend him to anyone looking for personalized care.

Dr. Gray makes quick decisions. This may have offended some. But as someone with severe depression who has been in the psychiatry game for 40 years (bipolar 2? who knows--these names don't mean that much, something Dr. Gray would in fact agree with), I have never encountered a psychiatrist as intelligent and responsive as Dr. Gray. He does tell you to move on about things, but with great respect for the patient. He tells me not to waste my valuable time, as a good person, on the things toxic people say to me. He does not simply hand out pills, although he is willing to take some chances on meds that other psychiatrists haven't with me. He has worked tirelessly and with subtle intelligent to put together, with my constant input, medications that have worked to pull me out of what was, frankly, a longterm suicidal depression. I feel that I have a strong intellectual and, in a very appropriate way, emotional bond with him. I trust him. That is a huge statement for me. I am… sorry others have had bad experiences. I was fired by someone whom everyone online thought was a genius and a figure of compassion. For some reason she decided she hated me. These things happen. I can't see Dr. Gray doing some of the things others have reported, but I respect their right to tell their truth. For me, it's very different. Dr. Gray has saved my bacon many times, and I am extraordinarily grateful.

Great doctor. He is smart and has a great rapport with his patients. He really cares!

A patient told me that, three days before radical amputations her breasts, Dr. James S. Gray told her that she would "....need to take more Loranzepam (addictive drug) after the amputations....." After the amputations, the patient constantly reminded Dr. James S. Gray about his statement, and he did not deny it, and began to display a lot of anger, and ordered her into a mental ward three times, where she was forced to take Depakote and Risperdal. He was constantly coming on to her (10 years), but she had no interest in him, and worst, he was married with two children. He appeared violent and the patient was not interested in him.

Only psych to diagnosed me w/ borderline. When I disagreed in a calm manner he laughed. Next visit, his rude staff tell me he's no longer taking my insurance for when a fact I know that he is. So if you actually have borderline I wouldn't suggest seeing this dr. He will probably degrade you and not give you the best possible care because obviously he is easily intimidated.

He was impatient with my son. Extremely quick to make diagnosis didn't provide explanation or support services. Quick to recommend medication wo asking our view.

Dr. Gray has no idea how much people really suffer as he has no empathy. None. He hands out pills. He's good at that! I'd stick with him; however, after more than 15 years with him, I saw another doctor which ended disastrously, I was ridiculed annd humiliated. This Dr. spoke with Dr. Gray and bent his ears and I was not permitted to defend myself nor speak of the topic ("Let it go!" Gray said. When I say I am hurt, I mean, I am hurt.

Brilliant doctor. He really knows his stuff. I'm in my thirties and have struggled with bipolar and ADD since adolescence. I've been seeing Dr. Gray for three years. He keeps me stable and thriving.

In my almost 25 years of seeing 10-15 psychiatrists, Dr. Gray towers over all the rest. None of them comes close to him in intelligence, strength of mind, and revealing commemnts.He quietly, but with strength, exudes confidence that your life will eventually be better. Not the least by any criteria is his approx. 15 years continuos service as my doctor. The other psychiatrists all moved, retired, or changed insurance plans. The longest service I remember was from a doctor who retired two years after taking me as a patient.
