Dr. James Swann Hixon, MD

Dr. Hixon treated my husband, he was blunt and to the point, my husband is better today than he has been in years. Thank you Dr.Hixon.

HATEFUL RUDE, NO KINDNES N HIM PERIOD, DO NOT USE THIS PERSON, HE DOESN'T EVEN CLASSIFY AS A MAN

I have been a patient of Dr. Hixon for 30 years. Hands down, the best gastro dr. in this area. He will be direct, ask pertinent questions and will not beat around the bush. He will do any and all tests required to find your problem. He has a excellent record for endoscopies and diagnosis. He has done approximately 10-12 scopes on me without any problems whatsoever. I never woke up or had any post-op pain. Always satisfied with nursing staff. He has always been courteous and polite to me. I would recommend anyone in need of a gastro doctor to him.

I've been seeing Dr.HIxon for over two years now and I have alot of respect for him. I was feeling bad and the doctor I was seeing told me nothing was wrong. A friend of my recommended me to Dr. Hixon and he found the problem and corrected it, I'm feel much better. Dr.Hixon doesn't spend much time with patients and some see it as rude but that's not the case. I work at the RMC and he is a very busy man due to the fact he's a good doctor and is well respected. I have recommended family and friends to him myself. He takes very good care of his patients and in my opinion has a very good bed side manner when I was in the hospital. .

After being admitted through the emergency room, Dr. Hixon became my GI doctor. He diagnosed that I had a blockage in my biliary system and he was correct. He placed the stent and sent me home. I never saw him again. Nobody ever explained to me how the procedure went, whether biopsies were sent off or anything. I woke up after the procedure in extreme pain and nauseated. This lessened minimally over the next several days but I was still unable to function normally. I attempted contacting Dr. Hixon but was always sent to the nurse's voicemail. Dr. Hixon called me back one time (the evening I had the procedure) and said I would be fine. The following week, I was still having pain severe enough that I couldn't eat or drink anything. After feeling like I had to plead my case again that something is not right, Dr. Hixon has me come in the next morning for an ultrasound and some blood work. Several days later and a couple of phone calls later, I still haven't heard back from Dr.… Hixon. So, I go to my regular doctor, because the pain is becoming more severe. He does some more labs, get the results of Dr. Hixon's labs and compares them. My pancreatic enzymes are continuing to increase. My doctor tries to consult with Dr. Hixon about what to do and Dr. Hixon tells him I don't have insurance and accuses me of being a drug seeker!! He says my complaints aren't valid and don't even make sense. Well, Dr. Hixon, they make perfect sense to me because I'm the one living with the pain! Dr. Hixon NEVER prescribed me pain medication and I NEVER asked for pain medication! I was completely horrified that I was being treated this way all because he thought I didn't have insurance. Luckily my general practitioner knows me well enough to know I do have insurance and I'm not a drug seeker. So, he consults with another GI doctor, gives him the lab results and together they diagnose me with "Pancreatitis", which is a huge risk factor of placing a stent in the biliary duct! So, kudos to you Dr. Hixon for diagnosing my stricture, but shame on you for your terrible behavior afterwards! You should know the risks involved and you should keep your patients aware of those risks. I will not be recommending you to anyone I know nor will I be referring any patients to you!(thatâ??s part of my job) Oh yeah, the company you work for just bought the company I work for, which is why I didn't have my new insurance card yet!

My wife's father was a physician as are other members of her family. Her mother was a healthcare professional and educator. They, as well as my wife and I, use Dr. Hixon. He is well-schooled, well-trained and highly professional. He does not believe that medical visits are social ones. He has other patients waiting and one must realize that were he spending social time with every patient, he would expand his wait times considerably. He is thorough and frank. Some misinterpret this as lack of compassion. That is not the case. As a diagnostician and clinician, OUTSTANDING!
