I have been a patient for over 30 years. He has always been courteous and only performs procedures that are necessary.

I became a patient - and a fan- of Dr. J when I was just a 13 year old with a chipped front tooth; you can imagine how awful that is for a self concious young girl! He did a beautiful job on that crown - it lasted for 20 years until it finally needed a root canal. He is ALWAYS, ALWAYS very careful to make sure that the tooth he's working on is numb and there is no pain that can in any way be avoided. I have had more root canals, crowns, filling, etc. than 2 or 3 people would average in a lifetime. ..and he's done everything that didn't require an oral surgeon. Because of TMJ and major surgery on my mandibular bones, there is nerve damage that any dentist working on my teeth MUST account for in giving novacaine....and he gets it right every time. And let me tell you - that requires patience, skill, and true consideration for his patient. While I was away in college I made the mistake of using another dentist - who could NOT seem to understand that the jaw surgery I had had moved … or sensitized some of the major and minor nerve plexus (tthat's where they give the novacaine shot) .... and when they commenced drilling, I wasn't numb. The dentist was frustrated - and seemed more concerned about the time the procedure was taking than the pain he was inflicting! ! I promise you, that will never be the case with Dr. Johnson. If you have TMJ, nerve damage, highly sensitive teeth, or a child who is scared of the dentist, it's worth the drive to his office if you're in Richmond or Tidewater. He's a skilled doctor who will do his absolute best to keep you comfortable - and his work is top notch. And after 30+ years, it's obvious that the work he's done has stood the test of time.
