Dr. James Harlan Johnson, MD

Even if I got no results, I would not hesitate to try again. Fortunately, Dr. Johnson told me that I was the ideal candidate. After my treatment, over 85% of my obstructions were eliminated, especially the one that looked like a mosquito and made me try to swat it away every morning. In addition to the good result, I received a medical education on eye anatomy, function, eyecare, health and diet. As you will learn, each of us are different and the results are not guaranteed. But I would rather take a shot at improving my vision, then buying a new laptop any day. Your old laptop will look fine when your vision is cleaned up.

I have been to Dr, Johnson last spring for two treatments per eye. I had severe floaters in both eyes. After the first treatment I noticed a big improvement. Slight improvement after the second. Dr, Johnson had explained that this would be the case. He suggested waiting awhile before having more treatments. I'm still bothered by the remaining floaters so I am intending to go for some more treatments soon. I would recommend looking into this laser option.

I don't usually write reviews, but I felt obligated after reading the prior two reviews. My experience was the opposite of what they described. Dr. Johnson is a refreshing change from most medical practices that have become assembly lines out of necessity because of high overhead. In contrast, Dr. Johnson keeps his overhead low so that he can focus on his core competency, and refer out patients if he doesn't think he can help them. At first he communicated to me that he didn't think he could help my floaters, and recommended a vitriectomy. So, even though he chooses not to perform surgery he doesn't hesitate to recommend it if he feels someone needs it. I told him that I would take my chances with the laser. After all, no medical procedure is guaranteed a success, and the laser is significantly less invasive and less risky than a vitriectomy. It took (2) sessions on each of my eyes to get a "wow" difference, and more sessions to clear them completely. I had horrible… cloudy floaters and not Weiss Rings. I am grateful that I found such a caring and talented Doctor. Dr. Johnson provides an invaluable service, and has significantly improved my eyesight and quality of life.

In it for the money as another reviewer said previously. I had complications - excessive dryness and floaters are still there (they were not juvenile floaters, and Dr Johnson assured me they were of the treatable variety). Go with treatments for which there is insurance. There is insurance because they are proven - not like this quack. Unlike other doctors performing this procedure, Dr Johnson does not perform other types of surgery. I suspect he is the only doctor who exclusively does this procedure - I wonder why. After digging around, I heard that his abnormally high complication rate for real optical surgery (not laser) meant he was told not to operate, or he would have his medical license revoked. I don't know if that is true, but he does not operate and is trying to spin doing this procedure exclusively as a plus, when if he is an incompetent surgeon, it is a minus! I can only talk to my experience. He was a very pleasant guy - nothing disagreeable about him but the… set-up is a little seedy - no staff, just him, with appointments always available. Do your research - there are much more credible doctors doing this procedure (and others) out there.

Think Twice, didn't work for me, expensive failure

I can count on one hand the number of truly great doctors that I have encountered in my 55 years and Dr. Johnson is one of them. I had a big Weis ring floater that was causing me much consternation. Texas doctors told me to learn to live with it. When I asked them about laser they poo poo'ed and said it would be too difficult to hit the floater or that I would end up with fifty small floaters. I called Dr. Johnson's office and he personally returned my call and answered all my questions that same day. I watched the YouTube video of him zapping a Weis ring like mine and booked a flight. It is now 6 hours since he zapped my floater and the floater is totally gone. I went from having a dark, bat-like flapping floater this morning to clear vision this evening. It is a miracle. And to top it all off he is a genuinely nice guy. He said if I noticed any remaining remnants, I could return next day for a touch up but I think it is totally gone. Talk about a sharpshooter! I can't… wait to go back home and show the retinal specialist who told me that I learn to live with it and maybe enlighten him a bit. And one other note to all of you suffering with the same thing, don't wait too long, your brain will try to block the floater out and I know in my case, after a month of Count Floatula, my eye had dumbed down and my other eye was trying to dominate. I noticed that it took a few hours of adjusting to being able to see well through the treated eye again. My depth perception has returned. Thanks for everything Dr. Johnson!

I've been treated by Dr Johnson during several sessions. I'm extremely happy with my results. Dr Johnson is caring physician who really empathizes with us floater sufferers. He spends the time necessary to find and obliterate these annoying guests in your eye. I' m glad I've been able to make the cross country trips to see him (I' from NY).

Dr. Johnson successfully treated my eye floaters using laser vitreolysis. He is one of the kindest and most thorough doctors I have ever encountered. I gave him a two stars for follow-ups only because I traveled thousands of miles to see him and another local doctor is doing the after visit follow-ups. I have no hesitation in recommending him to my relatives and friends.

I suffered with 2 huge vitreous floaters blocking my central vision. They were distracting, disturbing,and preventing me from doing the regular activities of my life-reading,taking care of my son's needs, driving, computer work...also conversations and interactions with others were disrupted...I was distracted terribly by the large mass of floaters in my field of vision.....after being told by 3 local ophthalmologists that "nothing could be done" and "just get used to them", I sought out and found an expert...Dr Johnson. I live 2,000 miles away from his treatment center, but I made the decision to go see him and hoped he would be able to help me. Well, within one day, my life got better. He helped me so much! I was apprehensive (I have been an RN for 25 years and am very discerning), but this doctor's compassion, kindness, skill, and devotion amazes me. I am now able to see so much better!! His ability to ease patient anxiety is wonderful too, he makes the patient feel comfortable and… confident. He explains everything so thoroughly. This is a GREAT doctor.

Dr. Johnson called me back right after I made my first appointment with his staff, e-mailed additional answers to my questions, saw me as soon as I arrived at his office, exceeded my treatment expectations by far (I can see so clearly now!), and made me feel like a person, not a case. He is warm and friendly as well as highly skilled in his specialty.
