Dr. James E. Jones, DMD. MSD, EdD, PhD
Dr. James E. Jones attended the University of Kentucky, graduating with a Bachelor and Master of Science degree in Zoology. He attended the University of Louisville School of Dentistry and received the Doctor of Dental Medicine degree. He completed a Residency in Pediatric Dentistry at the James Whitcomb Riley Hospital for Children at Indianapolis, Indiana. He received a Certificate of Specialty in Pediatric Dentistry rom the Indiana University School of Dentistry. He has been in full-time dental education, maintaining an active private practice in Pediatric Dentistry in Indiana, Massachusetts and Tennessee.
He has completed a United Cerebral Palsy Clinical Dental Fellowship as well as a Dental Faculty Fellowship sponsored by the American Fund for Dental Health. Additionally he served as a Robert Wood Johnson Dental Health Services Research Fellow at Harvard University. He received a Certificate in Dental Health Services Research from the Harvard …School of Dental Medicine. From 1989 through 1993 he was Professor and Chair, Department of Pediatric Dentistry, at the University of Tennessee College of Dentistry. During his tenure at the University of Tennessee, he was also Director of Extramural Programs for the College of Dentistry as well as Director of the University of Tennessee Craniofacial Anomalies Team. In 1993, he received the Ed.D. degree from the Indiana University Graduate School of Education.
From August 1993 to August 2005, he was Dean of the School of Health Sciences, Professor of Dental Education, Chairman and Director of Dental Education at Indiana University Purdue University, Fort Wayne (IPFW) and Director of the IPFW Health Sciences Research Institute. During the 2000-2001 academic year, Dr. Jones served as a Congressional Fellow in the 107th Congress with the senior Senator from Indiana, Senator Richard Lugar. In 2003 he received the PhD, degree in Biological Sciences from Empresarial University. He is presently Professor and Chair, Department of Pediatric Dentistry, Jane Whitcomb Riley Hospital for Children, Indiana University School of Dentistry. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, a Fellow of the American College of Dentists and a Fellow of the International College of Dentists.
Dr. Jones has been married 35 years to his wife Sherry. Sherry taught Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry and Physics, at the High School level. She retired from teaching at the end of 2005 academic year. They have two daughters; Lauren Elizabeth Jones, MD is a resident in Pediatrics at Riley Children's Hospital in Indianapolis. Katherine Blair Jones is a dental student at the University of Louisville School of Dentistry.
