Dr. James Thomas Kalyvas, MD

I cannot say enough positive things about Dr. James Kalyvas, Neurosurgeon. He performed a C2–T2 laminectomy and fusion that has been truly life-changing. From the start, he was compassionate, patient, and thorough, giving me complete confidence going into such a complex surgery. Since the procedure, I have no neck pain and my recovery has been remarkably smooth. My hand coordination and fine motor skills have returned to normal, the dizziness is gone, and the constant pain in my arms and neck has completely resolved. I am once again able to enjoy daily activities and feel that I have my quality of life back. Dr. Kalyvas is an exceptionally skilled, caring physician who puts his patients first, and I would recommend him without hesitation to anyone needing complex spine or neurosurgical care.

on Feb 19, 20, I had major spinal surgery. Dr Kalyvas was the attending physician. he is a very caring person and sees to all of your needs. His assistant May is super great if you have a problem she is there to assist you. Dr. Kalyvas and May makea wonderful I had major spinal surgery and Dr Kalyvas was attending physician. I got excellent care from him and hospital staff also his assistant May. On the behalf of the Dr. she will answer all your questions. I'm sorry I had to have this surgery but I have a wonderful team.

I was afraid, but it was something about the way he spoke to me. He was very straight forward and understanding. No medical jargon and he LISTENED to ALL of my concerns and spoke to me as if I were a family member. So I had a spinal fusion done at 35 who would have thought?! I had other doctors marvel at his work as I did too! ‘Wow how meticulous’ they would say and I agree! I was looking for a horrible scar after having 54 staples down my back. Ha! No way it’s almost like a work of art he’s a miracle worker and thank God for anointing his hands to what he did for me. I’m 7 months post surgery and healing but thanking God every day for sending me a Surgeon who cares and who is skilled. His Ochsner staff was so kind and understanding and checked on me through out the whole process and followed up after. Thanks Dr. K!!!

I would recommend Dr. Kalyvas to others. He is very intelligent and has compassion for his patients.

Dr.Kalyvas was very easy to talk too. I did not feel rushed at all during my appointment. He explained everything I needed to do in detail that was very easy to understand. I will definitely recommend him to others.
