Dr. James Reilly Keffer, DO

My wife went to Dr Keffer for a nerve condition study after 2 back surgeries. The neurosurgeon who did her surgeries assumed Dr Keffer would take over the pain management. Dr Keffer did not call in a refill for over 5 days even after we called his office numerous times. And he told us nothing important from the nerve study! He is either totally forgetful, arrogant or his office is totally unorganized. Either way, we are going somewhere else.We had to call our neurosurgeon after hours to call the medicine in (which is the lowest level pain med around) We are getting our neurosurgeon to refer us to someone else. DO NOT SEE DR KEFFER!

First of all, I have not complained about any other doctor here in South Carolina. Dr. Kefffer is more interested in saving money for the insurance companies and was difficult with me in ordering a test that Dr. Cuddy had suggested, a myelogram and CT scan. Dr. Keffer gave me a lecture on unnecessary tests and said I didn't need a myelogram but only a CT scan, and he didn't want to order that. So I contacted a radiologist who has several radiology offices and he confirmed to me what Dr. Cuddy suggested was the correct test, the myelogram, in my particular case. I called Dr. Cuddy and they ordered the test. Reluctantly, I returned to Keffer's office because I have no other choices with my insurance at this point in time. I saw his assistant PA, Joe. Joe acted concerned about my pain and yet never responded to my request for injections. They make it clear that they don't believe in pain medication. Well, that is easy to say when you don't have pain. But some people are in so… much pain that they cannot function, and so it should be on a case by case. I wound up in the ER on a Sunday night with excruciating sciatica pain. The only thing Dr. Keffer did for me was to send me to physical therapy, and that didn't help. After my visit with the PA , Joe encouraged me to contact him via their website if I have any questions. I wrote him two emails and called the office and left messages and he never responded. I said I am not looking for pain medication, but injections, an MRI, and may ultrasound to further evaluate what my problem is. Terrible terrible office and the doctors are only interested in the 40.00 copay. They have nothing to offer you. Find another doctor.

Go elsewhere. Dr. Keffer is the worst. Extremely rude and completely unprofessional. ARROGANT! The office is DIRTY. His appearance is umkempt. I feel sorry for his staff, they seemed terrified of him.

I am a cancer patient that moved to Charleston to be closer to MUSC cancer center. I had books of records they took the time to review. They were courteous and treated me with respect. I would recomend them any day! Thank you to Dr. Keffer and PA McTavish.

The worst pain management doctor I have ever been to. He was very arrogant an told me that maybe I should quit my job and go get an easier one and also said I should loose weight although I can barely even walk right now. I will never ever go back to him.

Do not go to this doctor. He is very arrogant and does not believe you have The symptoms that you describe. If tests are not 100% positive, then you do just have pain. He tries to make you feel like it is a mental issue. Worst doctor I have ever been too!!!!!

He told me that him and other dr.s at the clinic were tired of giving pain meds to patient, like I was a drug abuser! He acted like i was just there to get drugs. said he didnt have my records even though they had been sent and just told me to come back!! no help for my chronic back pain. he was very arogant and condesending towards me. i have bone spurs on my spine very painful i am in constant pain. i would not recommend him to anybody. I need surgery!!! Not a therapist!
