Dr. James V Kemper JR., MD

Dr. James Kemper and Sara Morton gave me my life back. Dr. K believes I suffer from Meniere's, and my progressive hearing loss began back in 1999. I've been his patient for 14 years. After the second appointment and all kinds of labs and tests, he looked me in the eye and told me that one day more than likely he and I would be meeting in surgery for a CI. Although I've seen experts such as Dr. Dereberry at House Ear Clinic in LA, they share the same opinions as Dr. K. In fact, Dr. Dereberry felt I was in great hands having Dr. K do my surgery. I'm a trial attorney, and I faced losing everything, and my hearing had suffered and kept me out of the courtroom for about 3 years before implantation in 2014. Six months after implantation, I tried a 4 day jury trial with about 14 expert witnesses and won. What can you say about the two people who give you your life back? Dr. K is a great surgeon and did great follow up care post surgery when I developed a case of the flu during recovery. His… CI audiologist is very knowledgeable and a great audio as well. She's also a great listener about all of your issues adjusting to CI life. I thank her often for counseling me through rough and difficult times early on. Six years later, I can hear music GREAT and am back to playing drums, guitar, keyboards and other instruments, with tonal recognition that I have not had in years. If Jim Kemper or Sara Morton needed a kidney, and mine was compatible, they'd have a donor right here. That's how grateful I am for them giving me my life back. I could go on and on, and I tend to, but suffice it to say that they gave me my hearing life back!

Dr Kemper is amazing. I am so glad we chose him for our sons cochlear implants. I did a lot of research on doctors in the area and went to several different appointments and Dr. Kemper was by far the best. His staff is also absolutely incredible. They are so helpful and supportive. Even after his surgery Dr. Kemper has continued to follow up and returned our phone calls within 5 minutes even after hours! My son is only 11 months old and I fully trusted Dr. Kemper with his surgery.

Dr. Kemper treated me for hearing loss caused by otosclerosis. I’ve worked with countless physicians in my professional life and Dr. Kemper and his office are top-notch in how they treat their patients. Everyone I interacted with in the office was kind and knowledgeable. Dr. Kemper inspires confidence without being arrogant. He’s straightforward and I never felt rushed during my appointments. So far my surgery seems to be showing great results. Would recommend without hesitation.

Dr. Kemper is absolutely a wonderful doctor. He performed four surgeries on my ear to enable me to hear once again with a Cochclear implant. I cannot say anything other than he is a miracle worker. Very savvy, doesn't jump to conclusions and has a calming demeanor toward his patients. His staff and his surgery nurse are also efficient and understanding. You won't find a more professional doctor or a better one anywhere near Austin.

Dr. Kemper is simply the best. He's very attentive, kind and knowledgeable. A great guy all around!

My first impression was that they did a lot of testing and not all of it made a lot of sense. I realized later though that there are a lot of reasons possible for some of these problems and they were just being that thourough to test. The testing staff were very polite although have to say they had to put a fire under me at times as not used to moving so fast. After the testing was done, I got to see the doctor and he spent a long time with me to explain things. He gave me a diagram of the problem area, dug out the model he had, and took a long time to describe what seemed to be going on. He even would write on the diagram he gave me and put all this medical jargon into plain English to make it easy to understand. He actually talked with me about medicine choices and seemed to want to know what I thought. A real two way conversation with a doctor, who knew? He gave me the choices he could see but he also didn't make promises or think he knew exactly how it would turn out. … Surgery is an option but he was very honest to say on this visit plus a followup visit that surgery might not actually fix my problem as the bone problem was in an unusualy area, not where surgery is known to fix problems like mine. I agreed with him, rather try medicines to see if it fixes anything before just jumping into surgery. I really do appreciate the candor. Wonderful doctor and staff. Hope you never need to see him but if you have problems in his area, I would recommend him 100%.

Dr. Kemper and his staff are truly the exception. I have battled Meniere's Disease for over 8 years and Dr. Kemper is the only doctor that provided any relief for my condition. He is definitely one of a kind. We are fortunate to have him in the Austin area because there are very few Otolaryngologist that have his expertise.
