Dr. James Karl Kirklin, MD

Dr. Kirklin 15 years ago fixed my new born 2.9 lb baby's heart. The bottom two chambers were ripped apart and had a cluster of holes in top right chamber. He put patch on the cluster of holes and fixed the speration in bottom two chambers. My daughter coded on the way to hospital that night and he fixed her heart. She is 15 years old now.

Dr. Kirklin performed open heart in 1996 - and replaced my sons valve with a human valve.. 23 years later son is doing great,playing golf, daughters in college, no blood thinners.We are very thankful.

He’s a class A jerk to his residents. Didn’t teach me a single thing except how NOT to treat those under me.

Dr James kirkland is the best. he did my 3 year olds heart transplant back in 2008 and you can barely see his scare, he has had know complacation since the operation Dr James Kirkland needs to have the best award in the world.

I would not suggest Dr. Kirklin to anyone. During my father's surgery he did not properly seal he valve and air traveled to his brain and caused a stroke. All four sides of his brain were damaged and he has never be the same. He was in a coma for weeks and remained in the hospital for months. Dr. Kirklin has never owned up to his mistake and has never acknowledged my father since. Dr. Kirklin ruined his life and ours. I will never have my father back. Mistakes happen, but 2 months prior to his surgery Dr.Kirklin did the same thing to another young boy. He should have his license revoked and never allowed to practice again because of his incompetence.

Dr. Kirklin is an amazing and caring surgeon...

Dr. Kirklin operated on my son at UAB to separate a double aortic arch/vascular ring. He did a great job. We dealt more with his staff than with him, and they were excellent.
