Dr. James Michael Krell, MD

I saw Dr. Krell for a mole on my stomach that I was concerned and nervous about as I thought I noticed it changing. After a full body exam, he told me it was fine. I was still nervous, and asked if he could just remove it because my family is freaking out about it. At the time, I was not aware that removing a mole/shaving it off could cause a scar because I had a shave biopsy removal done on my hand years prior with no scarring at all. He hastily said, "Well, if it will make your family happy!" and proceeded to quickly perform a shave biopsy removal and then had his assistant hand me the ABCDE info for moles. Had the Dr. or his assistant informed me that a shave removal could cause scarring, I would have never requested a removal. Not everyone is aware of the process of mole removal or the outcomes. I was simply scared of what I thought was a potentially cancerous mole. I understand the Dr. assessed it and told me it was fine, but I thought a shave biopsy had no consequences… cosmetically, therefore, I just wanted him to verify and resolve my fears. I thought what is the harm in having it biopsied? If him or his assistant had told me it could cause a scar, and ask if I'm sure I really want to risk that, I would have obviously quickly declined my request. It's too late now, as I have learned that what was done definitely can cause a scar. I now have a permanent scar on my stomach that I have to live with and regret every single day. Please, provide more patient education and explanation of the procedure before a patient requests something they didn't know any better about.

Dr. Krell has been my dermatologist since 1995 which was immediately following my 2nd melanoma diagnosis. He is a melanoma expert. I have seen him annually or more each year. Every appointment for 22 years has been on time. He and his office staff is professional in every way. Superb.

JM Krell was first (of three derm) to correctly diagnosis and manage my bullous pemphigoid. He saved my life, spent tons of time with me, explained everything. Nobody else could figure it out but he did! He is a brilliant dermatologist if you really need a doctor and not just skin cream .....FANTASTIC!

Dr. Krell treated my psoriasis aggressively. Wonderful doctor!
