Dr. James Robert Lizer, MD

Kept me very sedated even when I told him I was sleeping all the time. Kept my lithium level as high as it could be even when my labs were high. Told me I could take lithium with a diuretic, which is very unsafe. Withdrew me from lithium abruptly without telling me the side affects. I did feel like he treated me like a kid. I’m 60 years old. Like to give you “trick” questions. Did not seem to be concerned about my overall health.

I have been to many doctors and therapists in my 50 years on earth and have never felt like I'd been mistreated by anyone before I met Dr. Lizer. After getting my information and prescriptions from my primary care doctor he refused to renew them after one month unless I came back for a 3rd appointment immediately, although I had met with him only 2 weeks prior. I felt like I was being blackmailed to pay for a visit. I decided he was not for me and asked for my records to be sent to another psychiatrist. The office manager said I would have to pay a flat fee plus a per page fee to have them faxed and refused to give them to me directly. Never had anything like this happen to me before. Definitely do not recommend for anyone.

Uncaring, uncompassionate and treats patients as if he was their parent. Punishing them by withholding medications that have severe disabling withdrawal symptoms, if he feels they have not followed instructions to his liking. This includes patients he has not seen or even spoken with. Rather these patients were seen by one of the two NP’s, he employs. I would not recommend him to treat a snake. He needs to go back to school and not only learn how to be a human but, new information about prescribing and managing medications and the withdrawal symptoms they can cause when stopped abruptly! This recommendation involves Carol O’Leary, NP as well. She is in his employ. She should not accept patients that have issues she does not know how to handle! But, be honest up front and admit she is unknownable about how to best assist that patient. Both, she and Dr. Lizer, need to remember that the patient has a right under the Patient Bill of Rights to participate in their own care. It seems… they have forgotten this concept of basic patient care. Dictatorship is not conveyed by a license to be an MD or NP. Neither one read information presented by a patient to educate them on a particular issue the patient is undergoing and how to treat that particular diagnosis. It is inconceivable that a patient is more knowledgeable about their condition and how to treat it, than licensed, supposedly, educated Medical Professionals specializing in a specific field. Had excellent treatment by Dr. Lizer.

Does not listen. Over-medicated me (confirmed by many doctors), side effects which caused me to lose my job, home, wife and child. He may have experience, but seemed like he was rushing to judgement. Didn't give ample time between medication adjustments. With the kind of drugs he was giving, he should have been listening better. I'm so glad I finally took 'my business' elsewhere. While my life will never be the same, at least I'm doing better now.
