Dr. James Meredith May, MD

Patient of Dr May since 1975, until I moved from Corpus Christi in 2014. He saved my life from severe depression as a young woman, guided me, helping me understand human nature, and life as it rolled out. I would still be visiting with him if I lived in Corpus Christi. I wish I could give him a rating of more than 5 stars.

I recently established a doctor-paitent relationship after an absence of 20-plus years. He previously helped me with my depression as did his doctor associate at the time. His office manager is excellent. She is courteous and goes the extra mile to accommodate appointment changes, etc. Recently she called me when Dr. May had a cancellation in the afternoon the same day and I was able to come in for it. She is an all-around pleasant, helpful person on the telephone and in the office. Dr. May is experienced and already has helped me with my depression. I recommend him to anyone.

Dr. May literally saved my mother's life. She was extremely depressed and starving herself to death. He treated her depression, and while she didn't like what he had to say because she doesn't much care for the truth, her condition is greatly improved. She is now better than she has been in 10 years! Dr. May is wonderful!

After appointments with two other psychiatrists, I found the "right fit"!Dealing with his receptionist was something else! But things have changed now and I am greeted by an extemely friendly and helpful new receptionist.

Dr. May is a kind, knowlegeable,perseptive individual. He has gotten a bad reputation because of his receptionist. Well things have changed. He has a new receptionist that is very kind and polite and helpful. Dr. may has helped me for 15 years and in that time he has helped me acquire a great healthy relationship with my family, friends and people at work. I would never let anyone including a receptionist get in the way of my therapy. It is hard for someone that is bipolar to keep a balanced happy life. I am all that with the help of Dr May. May God bless him for his great work and may he continue to help people that come through his doors.

I like Dr May because of his great experience and bedside manner. He is very caring and has alot of experience. He quickly diagnosed my problem and got it right the first time.

Initially started with Dr My 10 yrs ago.Classic Bipolar 1I liked him and his receptionist. Then I got sicker and when his receptionist changed the overall feeling changed to horrible.Another friend who also attends Dr May said he wanted To "kill her" not really just not a people person.Dr only offered suggestions on questions of medication. So learned not to talk about anything else for the 15 min. we had every three months.On his side I wasn't compliant With meds a good deal of the time. This went on for ten yrs so we both settled in and my visits were only for the same scripts.Then I was "fired" After 10 years missed a three months period and was now on the sixth month. Called and was told I needed to pay $200 because I was a new patient. Told her I was a ten yr patient and asked would they please just let me come for my script for the usual $65 ( no insurance). The answer was no, there were liability issues.I called back a couple weeks later and agreed to pay the 200 and was… advised I was no longer his patient because Now this is good " we aren't accepting new patients".I'm no expert but it would have been nice to refer me to someone. And feel the method of letting me go was a bit mean spirited.I feel Both the Dr and the receptionist should be in other lines of work.

Dr James May Psychiatrist is not to be trusted. I am not distorting facts. No Doctor should run an office like this especially a psychiatrist. Booking or rescheduling an appointment is near impossible- no voicemail,no email, and no office hours on Friday. I have had to change a few appointments and it takes 5-10 calls to get through. It's either busy or a we are out of office message but NO place to leave a message. This is archaic. The only option is the Emergency on call Dr. Rescheduling an appt is not an emergency. This has caused me to miss appointments as well as anxiety. I explained why and the response was to force me to sign a paper saying I would be dismissed if it happened again. I begrudgingly signed. 6 months later (recently) I had to reschedule an appt. I called for two days. It was busy or I got the emergency line. I ended up leaving a message on the emergency line to avoid getting dropped 4 days in advance. I was dropped. I requested he call me as I wanted to hear why as… this made no sense. I never heard from him. I sent certified mail requesting he contact me so that I could continue my care with another Dr as I refuse to see a Dr who does not support his patients. The amount of anxiety and stress this has caused me has prompted me to write publicly about this. I feel totally abandoned and alienated over the stupidity of his office staff and archaic communication. I am 39 years old and have booked many appointments. I have rescheduled and am respectful enough to not pull a NO SHOW. The simple fact he could not give me a phone call to help me continue my care with another physician is completely unethical. After I was dismissed via a hand written scribble from his office staff, I called and requested to speak directly to him. I communicated that I tried and even left a message on the exchange as I wanted to avoid this. She hung up on me. I called back and asked why she hung up as I am not upset. I just need to talk to the Dr and find a new office that runs like a real office. I still have not heard back. I sent a certified mail requesting a response and records. I have heard nothing. I lost all respect for Dr James May MD. Any Psychiatrist who operates this way should go back to school and read about his profession. To be dropped without any logical response is not ethical. This is factual. I plan on making this know to anyone who is seeking mental health care. I think he needs to retire as he has lost touch.
