Misdiagnosis cost me time and money

While the staff and doctors at both sleep center and lung office are all outstanding, i will follow dr. Mccarrick to Charlotte in order to continue my progress with him. I've been seeing this doctor for 20 something years and feel most comfortable with him.

Two months ago, I was diagnosed with Severe Sleep Apnea by Dr. McCarrick. Today was my first follow-up appointment after beginning use of a CPAP machine. Although it was rough to learn my diagnosis, I really appreciated the way Dr. McCarrick explained the causes of sleep apnea and treatment needed, and even more the way he motivated me to lose weight. Doing such is probably the best thing I can do in order to someday graduate from having a need to use the machine, my ultimate goal. Today, I was actually excited to see the doctor because, although I have not yet lost the weight, I have been working out regularly and making healthier food choices, and I feel I am off to a good start on this adventure to overcome sleep apnea. I saw the PA today at my appointment instead of Dr. M. Seeing the PA was fine, he was very pleasant and informative, but my disappointment came when I learned that Dr. McCarrick was leaving the Mission Sleep Center. I had hoped we would take this journey to… better health together, and I will miss getting to see him! I do hope you read this forum and know how much you are appreciated. This doctor listened to my odd constellation of symptoms, asked questions, ordered a few tests and made an accurate diagnosis in record time. No games and no wasting time. Dr. McCarrick saved my life and diagnosed a rare lung cancer, one normally seen in industrial production jobs or in Vietnam vets - neither of which I am. Note that my initial visit, diagnosis, and almost immediate treatment started exactly one year ago today. I'm alive and feeling great. Thanks to an unusually intelligent doctor.

I was scared my lung cancer came back after 3 years. This doc found the cancer first time when it was early and got me fixed up. Went back to see him and he took my concerns very seriously and set me up for tests. Everything came back fine and all i had was a viral lung infrction and not cancer. This is a very kind man who knew how scared I was and had everuthing done fast to make sure no cancer. Wish rest of my doctors were half as smart and caring.

I am so grateful to this physician for diagnosing me with several long-term and chronic conditions. Someone finally listened to me and went forward to test and treat these complicated problems. I think having a pulminologist who is also a great internist is key to dealing with patients and their many overlapping diseases and problems. This doctor is a very calm, warm, easy going doctor who doesn't dismiss a patient because the pieces don't fit. This is one amazing doctor. I have given Dr. Mccarrick's name and telephone number to my family, friends and even people i don't know but have chatted with when say waiting in line or sitting on an airplane. I am grateful.

Dr. McCarrick addressed issues surrounding my sleep apnea, retirement, and various medical and personal circumstances that affected my sleep patterns. He is excellent and very caring and honest. People with sleep problems need comprehensive care.

The title says it all. I was in the Mission Hospital Critical Care unit for a complicated pulmonary crisis. Dr. McCarrick made quick and accurate decisions and his calm and brilliant actions saved my life. He continued to follow up on me and because of him I'm fine. I am a retired physician having moved to Asheville from Boston several years ago. My experience with Dr. McCarrick was exemplary. He is obviously highly intelligent, an extremely thorough and astute diagnostician, and superbly competent in multiple specialties. He is board certified in four different specialties, each specialty complementing and bolstering the whole. As a physician I had made a diagnosis of my own illness. However, after consult with Dr. McCarrick I found that my diagnosis was incorrect. McCarrick had the extensive background that I lacked. His diagnosis and treatment plan were not only accurate but highly effective. I will note this is the first and likely only time I will comment on another physician, particularly online. However, I am extremely impressed with this physician. I assume the highly professional and caring manner he presented is typical of that which he provides non-physician patients.
