Dr. James Nelson Muth, MD, PhD

My husband was hospitalized for a week due to breathlessness and several specialists could not identify why. After ruling out several possibilities, the hospitalist recommended a cardiac catheterization to check his heart. Dr. Muth came into the room and said, "This test would be a waste of time. You are simply anxious and overweight." He was dismissive of the other specialists' and techs' theories, also dismissing the notes on my husband's chart that showed the right side of his heart was enlarged. Two months later, a different cardiologist agreed to an MRI that confirmed my husband had an Atrial Septal Defect. He had a successful open heart surgery 6 months after our experience with Dr. Muth. It should have been caught and repaired sooner. Dr. Muth is at the very least fatphobic and does not listen to his patients or colleagues.

Dr Muth specializes in electrophysiology and has a keen understanding of ailments like Atrial Fibrillation. He has the ability to clearly present the options for care and their pros and cons. I never felt pressured to choose any course of care. In fact, I waited over a year before deciding to have a cryo-ablation with Dr. Muth and he was fine with my decisions at all times. The procedure went well and no A-Fib for 4 years and running.

After 12 years of SVT episodes, 20 ambulance rides to numerous hospitals, brain scans, thyroid and pituitary gland tests, more blood tests and x-rays than I can count, consults with 5 cardiologists including a specialist from the Mayo Clinic who all said there was nothing wrong with my heart and I was having anxiety attacks and I needed to see a psychiatrist ... I AM GLAD I CROSSED PATHS WITH DR. MUTH. He easily recognized the problem and fixed it in an hour. Yes, I'd recommend Dr. Muth.
