Dr. James Adam Parker JR., MD

Dr Parker was my psychiatrist for nearly a decade. I would have continued seeing him if possible. As a teenager and young adult receiving treatment, I feel Dr Parker took special care to tend to the sensitive needs of a young person with mental health issues transitioning into adulthood. I made incredible progress in my time under his care, thanks to the excellent treatment he provided, and, his ability to inspire greatness in me. We ended the doctor-patient relationship on a high note. I'm so grateful for my time as his patient and will always remember his profound impact on my life. Dr Parker is respectful of my concerns about the treatment plan and carefully considers my input. He and I work together on determining what's best for me. I feel safe and comfortable talking about difficult things with Dr Parker. I appreciate his thoughtfulness in reviewing past (questionable) diagnoses, it's a relief to officially rule them out. His keen knowledge of mental disorders is apparent. He… is on top of refills and I'm able to get my medications on time. Always responds quickly to my concerns between appointments. Excellent care all around. When I first started seeing Dr Parker, I felt intimidated by his intelligence and the inherent power differential in the patient-doctor relationship. However, that feeling gradually subsided with each successive appointment. Something that really impressed me was a time when I was, objectively, a difficult patient. He didn't yell at me or react with anger. He came up with a plan, we worked it out, resolved the issue, and moved forward with treatment. And when a second opinion was indicated, Dr Parker referred me to a brilliant colleague of his, which led to additional excellent psychiatric treatment. That is a rare thing in my experience. It's often the patient who has to find a second opinion, so I greatly appreciate that. If you or your child are in need of a psychiatrist and have the opportunity to see Dr Parker, I say go for it! I can't recommend him enough. And to parents, my mother (who chose him as my doctor) agrees he is excellent.
