Dr. Jim Pollard maintains a general dental practice devoted to delivering exceptional implant and comprehensive restorative care in his office in Lynchburg, having done so for a number of years. His origins derive from this area, with ancestry in Bedford county dating to the 1700’s. He is a third generation doctor, having succeeded his grandfather (MD), and his father (DDS) in this endeavor. Dr. Pollard was proudly, and solely educated in the state of Virginia in public institutions, having graduated from E.C. Glass High School, the University of Virginia (chemistry), and the Medical College of Virginia School of Dentistry. Service to his country in the U.S. Navy as a dentist followed graduation from MCV, after which he began private practice.
Dr. Pollard is a member of the Lynchburg Dental Society, the Virginia Dental Association, and the American Dental Association. He is an alumnus of the L.D. Pankey Institute; he holds a certificate in orthodontics from the United …States Dental Institute, and he holds a certificate from the Medical College of Georgia in Implantology. Membership in the International Congress of Oral Implantologists (ICOI) at the Fellow level, and membership in the American Academy of Implant Dentistry (AAID) at the Associate Fellow level demonstrate his proficiency in implantology. Dr. Pollard is the only dentist in this part of the state to have achieved this degree of recognition in the AAID, with the only other dentists to have done so in the Richmond, tidewater, and NOVA areas. He holds an Advanced Cardiac Life Support certificate from the American Heart Association, and is qualified to administer intravenous sedation by the board of dentistry. He is also a member of the dental staff at local hospitals, Lynchburg General and Virginia Baptist, where he holds operating room privileges. Dr. Pollard willingly and freely gives of his time at the Free Clinic of Central Virginia, and is an Adjunct Professor of Dentistry at the Medical College of Virginia. Dr. Pollard also possesses an FAA multi-engine and instrument flight instructor certificate.
