Dr. James Rainville, MD

Would not see this doctor again, has an odd bedside manner but that's not the issue. The issue is that he seems intent on the psychological aspect of pain-which is unhelpful as a patient without pain as their main complaint. He also see fundamentally against spine surgery, i was told by him that i never actually needed my first spine surgery(which was an urgent decompression for acute foot drop because i couldn't walk) a few years ago based on his monday quater-backing . He said something about the body being able to heal all disc herniations...yeah ok buddy. Basically the guy had nothing to offer except a thorough review of what has already happened the past several years but absolutely zero on anything helpful for the future. The neuro exam was incomplete, for example he did not compare right and left, many things he said did not make sense. If you are anyone that has has had spine surgery and especially if you have any residual deficits from that i would really think twice before… making an appointment with this MD because it was a complete waste of time. After reading some reviews on here it seems like there is a trend in his diagnosing...

I have been going to Dr. Rainville for over 20 years and have referred others. He has always been spot on in his diagnosis and advice. He tells it like it is, does not have an agenda, is not for or against surgery or whatever. I have never left with an unanswered question, never had a phone call not returned. And he is getting me through another ruptured disc now. Diagnostician - A+, Knowledge and expertise - A+. Some reviews say 'arrogant' but I say self confident. Oh, and personality? Personally, I like him, but I don't pick my specialists by personality nor if I like them. You will get the straight facts, advice, and if you listen, you will be much better off when you leave than when you arrived.

This person shouldn’t call himself a doctor !! He is very rude. I had the impression that he hates what he does. This guy has issues

I have had several surgeries at The New England Baptist hospital and was treated each time with extreme professionalism and utmost respect but after my visit with Dr. Rainville I was totally disgusted and appalled at his arrogant,pompous attitude towards me and my wife who attended with me and I’m glad she did,because she never would have believed me when I said how rude he was......she went to ask him a question and he pointed his finger and shooshed her saying I don’t need your input now.....my wife was livid.....some nerve .....he just talked down to me and said it’s all in my head ,your fine ,oh really .......it was not in my head and I was in severe pain so much that 2 weeks Later I was approved for SS DISABILITY on my first try clearly showing my pain was NOT in my head as told to by Dr. Rainville .I would never recommend Dr.Rainville to anybody and think New England Baptist hospital should look into not having him on there staff as he is a discredit To New England Babtist… Hospital.!

I was so disgusted after the first time when he compared my debilitating pain to his Grey hairs on his head. Professional? I was getting old (the pain started freshman year in HS and I am only 37... I am Not elderly here). I decided that when I had a pain episode I would give it a second chance, everybody has a bad day, right? Well, he was just as arrogant this time. I’d be embarrassed if I was ever that rude. And his employer, I would Never want that man working for me. A heart would be helpful in his career choice. I hope he does not have his own kids and if he does, I’m sorry. I walked out of there, balled my eyes out and found a new practice. Buh- bye you can thank him for your bad rep.

After not being able to carry more than about 15lbs for 30-yrs, and having a number of painful bouts of back pains, Dr Rainville put me on his special course of strengthening exercises, after which I have no problem lifting 45lbs. [I am 78 yrs old.]

Myself, my son, my husband, my step daughter and one other person I know have all been helped tremendously by Dr. Rainville's Bootcamp for backs program. He is trying to teach people something new and challenging and it really works for many people with chronic back pain. Everyone is different, but definitely worth trying! I only met him a couple of times but am sure glad I followed his program.

I have no idea why this man is allowed to say the things he does. Basically he told me to suck it up...level 10 pain is all in my head. I have had 2 operations and she looking for advise before I had a third. He was belittling, talks down to women and really just an ignorant Man. My daughter and I left crying. Thank God for the Fellow that was there...he was what saved me from not totally falling apart. This is my life we were talking about and I could no longer work. Never, Never, ever see this man if you want help.

I have been in pain for a year and a half. I broke my back, ribs etc. A woman referred me to him.I thought I would give him a try where he was well known. We"ll he"s not what others have told me. On the first visit he was happy and made me feel so positive. Second, he jokes etc and starts giving you the run around. Sending you to PT getting shots after shots etc. He started to get rude brushing me off. I knew that my mother was not getting the right help nor that this Dr was nothing but FAKE. The last time she saw him, He said rudely, sorry theres nothing else I can do for you and walked out of the room as she is crying because he lied and promised her she would be fine by Christmas that was a month before that. She called the office several times , as well as myself. He never even called us back. He doesn't care about anyone. Please do not recommend this poor excuse of doctor to ANYONE...

In all my life (73 coming this October) I have never met an doctor like Dr. Rainville. EVER. I was the last patient for the day and I was treated like the first. He was patient, calm and understanding. He spoke to me as if he had all the time in the world. As if all my worries were legitimate. Then he started to talk about the quality of life from within. He reminded me of all the thing that I used to believe in: The power of the mind, the drive to appreciate the things that we do have. When I sat back in my ride I burst into tears. All the negative thoughts, the anger, the frustration- were gone. I will never forget him. I am full with energy and determination. Dr. Rainville did what my surgeon and my own physician didn't do. He gave me back my inner strength.
