Dr. James Adams Russell, DO

Dr Russell takes his time getting to know me and listens carefully to my complaints and symptoms . He asks questions, engages conversation and gives a well thought out plan to arrive to a diagnosis and treatment plan. I highly recommend Dr Russell. I have read some negative reviews and it seems that not everyone enjoys his dry sense of humor.

He was extremely condescending to me and to my fiancé, who accompanied me to my visit. Not helpful at all. Especially demeaning as he was the first neurologist I was able to see after being newly diagnosed with a nerve disorder. I had a rash from my new medication, he told me to keep taking it. Turns out a potential side effect of the medication is Stevens-Johnson syndrome which first presents as a rash, he didn’t bother to mention that or tell me to stop the medication. My gp doctor had me stop the next day. Dr. Russell is the worst doctor I’ve ever had the displeasure to meet, I was very happy to cancel my follow up with him.

He acts like he'd rather be playing golf.

If zero stars were an option that is what I would give this man. I accompanied my mother to an appointment after she was in a car accident. We sat there in shock and disbelief at his horrible demeanor. I felt as if we were being grilled in an interrogation rather than seeking help. My mother was brain injured and he laughed at her and was so condescending telling her what she was feeling couldn’t be true. I wish I had said something right then and there but at the moment I was incredulous that he was actually that rude. The nurse came out as we were leaving and whispered to us to get a second opinion. I wouldn’t take my goldfish to this inconsiderate, rude, and narcissistic person. Shame on him

Lacks compassion, ethics, and manners

Dr Russell listened fully to my story and scheduled two additional tests. For six months, no one else thought to increase the search area. He did. And a discovery was made. His sense of humor is unique and may be off-putting. But I will gladly take a dry wit to receive the benefit of his intelligence, experience and expertise.

I went to the Lahey Clinic because of the reputation of the facility. I waited a half an hour after my appointment time to be seen and I was only in the room for 5 minutes when he announced that he had something urgent to take care of. Then a nurse comes in and tells us to go and get lunch and he'll see me after that! I drove three hours for this??? I've had increasing generalized muscle weakness with increased pain. After a quick once over he decided that I had fibromyalgia. That was without even testing me for fibromyalgia. Then he had the nerve to tell me that I didn't have muscle weakness. Excuse me? Oh and he didn't test me for that either. I wish that I had read these reviews beforehand. At least now I know why it's so easy to get an appointment. Stay away from this guy.

Dr. Russell has very little if no compassion at all for his patients.

This was one of the worst experiences of my life. Dr. Russell definitely gave the impression that he's got issues. He told me that not only did he not believe in migraines, but that I was basically suffering from a midlife crisis (at the age of 42), and that I needed to see a psychiatrist. Potential women patients STAY AWAY FROM THIS MAN!!!!

I would highly recommend Dr. Russell. He was very thorough, patient, and really put me at ease during the appt. He had all of my past data, and carefully reviewed my symptoms and MRI results with me. I left feeling relieved and confident that I was accurately diagnosed, and taken care of....
