Dr. James Alan Sattler, MD

I was very unhappy with the level of care from Dr. Sattler for my recent Colonoscopy. The procedure went fine and the nursing staff was caring and attentive. However, it went down hill from there. After spending 30 minutes in recovery I was escorted to a random hallway where he had me waiting for 30 minutes until he came out to talk to me about my exam. I was sitting amongst other patients in the hallway for their results from their Doctors. There was no confidentiality, it was unprofessional and definitely NOT HIPA compliant. The biggest issue was that he hurriedly came out to tell me everything was ok and that he would see me in 8-10 years. I was then approached by the discharge nurse to discuss aftercare. She said, "I would receive my biopsy results in 8-10 days" I told her that based on what Dr. Sattler said that there was no findings, no biopsy and everything was OK. I was shocked to hear that he had taken a biopsy. My step-daughter who was there to pick me up recorder… the discussion with the doctor and she as well validate he never mentioned a biopsy. I asked the nurse to please have him return to verify what he had done. Within 15 minutes he returned and, very casually, said (with other patients sitting in ear-shot), "You must be taking a lot of natural laxatives because you colon is very dark. I should have told you that I took the biopsy just to make sure nothing was missed since I couldn't see very well." Honestly, I was so shocked by his lack of attention to detail that I sort of froze and asked few questions. I just wanted to get out of there as fast as possible. Needless to say, I will not return to him for any further testing. I don't like feeling that I am on an assembly line with a doctor who cares little for patient care.

Upon arrival at the Digestive Care Consultants lobby, we were informed by the office staff that Dr. Sattler was not on-site but would be arriving shortly. After waiting about 5-10 minutes, we were taken in to the exam room by a nurse. The office staff was extremely attentive and friendly. Dr. Sattler did not enter the exam room until 4:57pm. He was almost an hour late, and his demeanor already felt very negative. Although he was very late, I wasn’t upset because I was more excited about getting back into treatment and concerned with addressing my flare-up symptoms. I explained that in my previous treatment history with Dr. Patel, I stopped treatment when Entyvio and Remicade were my only remaining options. Since Entyvio had brain infection/death as a possible side effect, I wasn’t ready to go that route and Remicade was an infusion therapy drug which also concerned me. He rudely interrupted me and said, “There’s no brain infection.” I replied that I had read about… the brain infection/death risk as one of the possible side effects in the Entyvio pamphlet Dr. Patel had given me. Dr. Sattler rolled his eyes, snickered, and condescendingly repeated, “There’s no brain infection.” Then, I explained that regardless of whether brain infection is or isn’t a side effect, I wasn’t interested in trying Remicade nor Entyvio at that time. Dr. Sattler dismissively snickered and stated, “then there’s nothing we can do for you.” I was astounded that he had already come to this conclusion within just a few short minutes without: • discussing my current symptoms • completing a current colonoscopy • reviewing current lab work He seemed resigned to simply end my appointment there. It wasn’t until I pressed for a current coloscopy that any new treatment options were even discussed. I tried to restart our interaction and get back on track, by pleading, “I think we have gotten off to a bad start. I brought in some questions, so maybe we could review them together.” My first question was whether Crohn’s disease had already been ruled out, his response was, “It doesn’t matter, because both are treated the same way.” Dr. Sattler is 100% wrong...to me, it does matter! Although it doesn’t matter in his world, I for one, would like to know definitively which disease has upended my entire life. During the remainder of my appointment, he continued to speak to Mike rather than me and rolled his eyes whenever I would speak. It was blatantly obvious that Dr. Sattler was unsympathetic to my severe symptoms and was uninterested in treating me, so I walked out of the exam room and let him know that I would be complaining to the Office Manager. The fact that four members of the office staff came out to the waiting room to apologize for Dr. Sattler’s disrespectful behavior, yet he never apologized, speaks volumes about his lack of professionalism and compassion. There isn’t a single positive thing that I can say about my appointment with Dr. Sattler. I left Digestive Care Consultants feeling devastated by the outcome of my appointment and hopeless of ever being able to achieve remission.

rude POS doctor. doesnt care for his patients AT ALL

This Dr got my moms results 20 minutes after she left his office, never called her, a week later she goes to her general Dr because her back pain was just unbearable and her general Dr then tells her she has pancreatic cancer that has spread to the liver. She died 3 weeks later. This POS should have called my mom right away. She didn't even have a chance to fight.

An outstanding Dr. I am happy and impressed with his professionalism, manner and work.

The staff there is terriible. THey neverreturn phone calls and I have been waiting over a month to get a call back about a test that I need, Dr Sattler does not do a good job of listening and you really have to press him to get your opinion across and have themn to quit prescribing pills for everything. The doctors also have very few office hours to see patients.

2 weeks to get an Rx refilled.3 months to get an appointment.2 weeks for him to return my GP's call, which he never did, she had to call him REPEATEDLY.
