Dr. James Eric Segal, MD

I have been a patient of Dr. Segal’s for almost 10 years. As you can imagine a lot has happened to me medically and not all good. Dr. Segal was kind and gentle explaining every step of the procedures before they happened and helped us through each step. I can’t say enough positive words about his care and I would recommend him to everyone young or old.

His bedside manner is poor. He talks down to people as if he is the only intelligent human in the room. Do yourself a favor an find a different doctor.

In my opinion, I thought he was very rude and condescending. I am currently 22 weeks pregnant, and the last visit that I went to, I brought my husband and best friend along as well. I am 29 years old and my husband is 31 years old, and this is our first child, so we had a lot of questions. He seemed very knowledgeable when answering questions, but I felt like he was talking down to me and getting frustrated with the questions. The way that we were being treated upset my best friend so much that she got up and left halfway through the appointment. We were under the impression that we were having an ultra sound done that day and possibly find out the gender of the baby, which is why she came as well. Simple misunderstanding, such is fine and understandable. So, Dr. Segal suggested that we make an appointment two weeks later specifically for an ultra sound and that's it. Well, two weeks roll around and when my husband and I get there, we're told that the doctor isn't in and that I was… left a voicemail saying that the appointment had been canceled (which I never received). I explain that we were told that the visit was for an ultra sound ONLY, and was told that they generally don't do ultra sounds to find out the gender of the baby. I was furious! I even pulled out the confirmation that I was given for the day that I had the ultra sound scheduled. I'm pretty sure that we were treated awful, because my husband and I had just started new jobs a few months prior, and our insurance hadn't kicked in yet. We were paying cash for everything upfront and money wasn't an issue. I paid $630 for the blood test that checks for diseases and blood type, and over $300 for the Informaseq (fortunately, we were able to find out the gender that way since they didn't want to let us have an ultra sound) after the visit that Dr. Segal told us to schedule an appointment for the ultra sound. Never in my life have I ever been treated so disrespectful by any healthcare provider, and I truly hope that he isn't the same way with his other patients. It's a shame that nurse practitioner Mary Becker is no longer there (even though she wouldn't be the one delivering), because she was the sweetest! It's been a nightmare going to doctors appointments and what should be a happy time has been more stressful and nothing but disappointments.

I was in labor and he started telling me everything that could go wrong in delivery and birth while I was having contractions. He started to attack me like I had caused preterm labor to happen. He even made my husband cry. He may be smart but he treats patients like scum.

I love doctor Segal. He was recommended to me by a family member. I saw him through my entire pregnancy and he was wonderful. He doesn't have great bed side manner but, he is very knowledgeable and through.

Dr. Segal is a patient advocate and very detail oriented and professional.
