Dr. James Charles Shaya, MD

We’ve been seeing shaya since we were young and he’s always been incredibly knowledgeable. He will answer whatever questions you answer , especially concerning ADD meds. A lot of the parents upset with their child’s diagnosis think they have all the info themselves. Reading a couple websites on ADD yourself doesn’t make you an expert. The entitlement some parents feel to assume they know more than a doctor and do more harm making their kids suffer without proper ADD treatment bc they feel their child is misdiagnosed is annoying. You aren’t a doctor! You aren’t certified in ADD diagnosis. You sound just as unqualified as the anti-vax parents that spew their ‘science’.

Over prescribing my 7 year old with 20mgs of adderall. Ignores all my concerns as her father when i say its to much. Don't take your kids to premier pediatrics.

We took my 5 year old to Dr Shaya for Behavior issues. He didn't even talk to my child or listen to what we had to say. Within 5 minutes he diagnosed him ADD/ADHD. He also said my 18month old has the same issues and will need to be on medication. He gave my child Adderall and the pharmacy would not fill it because the dose was an adult dose. We decided not to get the prescription anyway since there was no way 5 minutes was enough to know that he is ADD/ADHD. Dr. Shaya had no interest in hearing what we had to say, and he avoided our questions. This is a serious diagnosis, there should be steps involved. We will never go back to him after this. I'm surprise he is even still in practice considering the reviews. Apparently he does this all the time.

My daughter saw him for her 19m appt. When he asked about her BM I said I had concern. -poops 3 times a day but all hard and balls sometimes dark- I mentioned how I had called the office a month ago and did the suggestions(prune juice, limit dairy and use Miralax). i said miralax wasn't working and he stated she should always be on it. He didn't seem knowledgeable on what I could do to help with her BM's besides what was suggested when I called the office(which I had been doing for a month). I felt dismissed, like my concerns didn't matter. Didn't ask what she was eating to cause the problem, said it was a girl thing and there isn't much I can do. Then when shots came I gave him my delayed shot schedule(which I have been doing) he looked at it laughed and bit and handed it back and said it was retarded. He then tried to scare me into getting the shots that I didn't want. I left really upset and will not be going back.

He prescribes antibiotics way to much. He will prescribe over the phone without seeing the patient. Stay away from him. He does more harm to kids then helping. He needs to be investigated before he doesdoes harm a child. I refuse to see him.

This doctor is very quick to diagnose ADD/ADHD, and even quicker to prescribe medication. In "diagnosing" my son, he only needed a questionnaire from myself and his teacher to dole out an Adderall prescription. When my son had side-effects (suppressed appetite, weight loss, stomach aches, mood swings, and insomnia), Dr. Shaya's answer was "he will never eat lunch at school again and to fix his other side effects, his dosage needs to be raised." With my daughter, he prescribed her Adderall before an evaluation was even done because he claimed that if my son has it, my daughter has it too. Now, other than the usual side effect (suppressed appetite), my daughter is also experiencing insomnia, but claims that she doesn't need much sleep now because the medication "wakes her up" when she takes it in the morning - in other words, the medication makes her high. He will medicate ANY child for this so-called ADD/ADHD diagnosis with very little reason proving why the medication is necessary and… the best route for treatment and apparently, he will prescribe Adderall to a child without even meeting them (as I've read in previous reviews and experienced first hand)! He boasts about how many books he's written on ADD/ADHD, which has convinced me that he's more of a writer than a doctor and with "all of that knowledge," he will spot ADD/ADHD symptoms in every child! Be careful if your child is a patient of Dr. Shaya's, DO YOUR RESEARCH, and Always get a second opinion before putting your child on ADD/ADHD medication!

If you're looking for a dr that talks down to you, doesn't care to answer your questions, dismisses your concerns without explanations and barely looks at your infant during check ups then this is your guy. This office is a joke! They herd you in like cattle, could care less about the dr patient relationship and the staff have had arguments in front of myself and my child on two different occasions. They are an extremely unprofessional lot! You work with children, at least do a better job pretending to care about the people you treat!

Dr. Shaya is always calm, friendly, and knowledgeable. When I have questions, he takes the time to answer them. When my child is sick, he calls to follow-up the next day. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but I really love Dr. Shaya's laid-back style. Four stars from me.

He is supposedly the ADD doc, well after 5 minutes in office and me explaining my 4 year old's behavioral problems, he started writing prescription for Ritalin and diagnosed him with ADD - shame on him, apparantly this happens often, if I wasn't informed on the subject I may have given my child the meds but instead I walked out dumbfounded and threw away scrip - those poor kids he is "diagnosing" - I am going to see what I can do to submit a complaint, he is very nice man but overstepping his boundaries and hurting children

My child was diagnosed with add after me and the teacher filling out forms. He never met my child. After my child had a serious reaction to the medicine he prescribed he would not call me back. He prescribed aderrall xr 15mg to start. after 8 days of being on 15mg he had him on 30mg. Needless to say I had one miserable kid. He just chalked it up to normal side effects. Children 6-12 are supposed to start on 10mg and increase weekly in increments of 5mg. I was very upset that I put my trust in a dr that put my child in danger. I am not a dr. It was me researching the drug myself when I learned of this overdosage. I am going to a specialist Ion my own and will never set foot back in a dr office that puts my child in harms way!!!
