Dr. James Rodger Smith, MD

I have been a patient for more than 20 years. Dr. Smith is extremely efficient in his manner and always shakes my hand when he enters the exam room. I have never had to wait unless someone was having a heart attack ( which did happen once) and the staff notified everyone in the waiting room asking if they wished to reschedule. Dr. Smith reviews my chart thoroughly each visit before he enters the exam room. He then takes the time to call and discuss my lab work even on the weekends. I appreciate his thoroughness and his time. He is extremely conscientious which I greatly appreciate.

Smith was overbearing and treated me very rudely. He actually argued with me about why I was there to see him and then held me in the exam room for more than 3 hours. He and his staff kept putting me off when I asked about the status of my appointment - it would wrap up, etc. Finally I had to leave to return to work and had to schedule a completely separate appt to obtain the closure of the appt and prescriptions that were withheld. Due to my work schedule and the limited availability of appt slots relative to my work schedule, I did not get the follow up for 3 weeks. The physical exam included an UNNECESSARILY rough and painful ROM assessment. The excessive wait time in the exam room was for punishment because Smith and I disagreed about what I was seeing him for (a condition I am treated for by a separate specialist). When I returned for the closure and prescriptions, Smith had scheduled lab work that had recently been done at Norton Cancer Institute - information he had access… to, despite his "reputation" for being "thorough". Fortunately I was able to stop this unnecessary blood work. He was extremely rude and unprofessional.

I agree with the other one star comments on here, arrogant, no bedside manner. But I would like to add horrible staff, money hungry, and will send you to specialist that don't even do what you need, but I am sure he still gets his kickbacks. And will charge you an extra visit if you ask anything outside of what your yearly physical covers, prescription refills or something is actually wrong, that will cost you double. All about the money.

I have never in my life been to a doctor like Dr. Smith. He is a bully, does not want to hear anything you have to say and is very rude. He has a bedside manner of a rock. If I could give him no stars on this survye, that's what I would have done. He did not want to hear anything about my overall health history, he completely dominated the conversation, so don't talk unless I specifically ask you a question and when he did ask you a question, he all but comes out and calls you a liar and has no interest in hearing the answer to the question he asked. I wouldn't take my dog to get care from him. Good luck if you choose him as your primary care physician. He won't be mine.

Dr. Smith has been my physician for nearly 20 years. I wouldn't see anyone else. He is straight forward and to the point. I love it......

DR Smith is a good doctor who tells it like it is ... I myself have several issues that could be over wheleming to a doctor ,, and to be honest the office is so busy i beleive thats the reason the doctor doesnt have time to set and talk with a person.. I find that he does the best he can with the time he has .. He has helped me in so many ways and continues to do so ... So my advice to the people who arent happy with his bed side manner should probley find a baby sitter instead of a doctor ...

For me, wait time was less than 10 minutes. Dr. Smith listened to me and discussed the labs he would order for me. He took the time to explain the potential problem and how he would address it. On the follow up, he explained my lab work and proposed a medication plan and exercise regime. On subsequent visits - he's kept up with my progress and all of my labs have improved. I feel better and I really appreciate his help.

Dr. Smith has a horrible bedside manner. I've seen him twice when my regular doctor wasn't available and I'll never go back. He rushes you and doesn't take the time to listen to you describe your symptoms and concerns. He wanted me to go see a surgeon on both occasions and I hadn't even seen a specialist yet for the colon problems I was having.

This doctor made us wait for an hour, and then didn't bother to apologize for making us wait so long. Has a terrible bedside manner; it's obvious this is tedium for him. Can't be bothered to call with test results. Will never see him again.
