Dr. James Robert Sohriakoff, DO

Dr. Sohriakoff is selective about the patients he will see. Both he and his secretary, Sandee, explained that after 40+ years as a physician he interviews patients to determine if they're worthy of his services. It should be noted that the interview does not include a medical history, but rather incorporates attributes like personality, location, and how likely you are to maintain the patient/doctor relationship. I found this peculiar for two reasons: (1) I don't think this patient selection methodology meshes well with the Hippocratic oath, and (2) there's a particularly large Bible in the waiting room. I wonder if Jesus H. Christ came to a point in his career and informed the sickly, "I'm not going to heal you today...I've been doing this a while and I've decided to become more selective of who I treat." I've worked in healthcare for 12 years and I've never encountered a doctor who blatantly turns away patients for reasons other than scope of practice. I've also never… encountered a medical secretary as unprofessional and disrespectful as Sandee. These two are indeed a pair.

After waiting a few weeks we had to call for results of blood tests taken to determine if husband had cancer. Later another doctor told us that tests that were taken were not definitive.

New to the area and called Dr. Sohriakoff's office with the hopes of establishing a primary care physician. First, the woman ("Sandy") answered the phone by saying, "Dr. S's office, can you please hold?" at which point I was promptly put on hold for 5 minutes. When she came back to me, I explained I wanted to schedule an appt and was due for my annual physical, lipid panel and bloodwork, etc. so I'd like to make an appt. Sandy explained that is not possible unless and until I come in for a "screening appt" to fill out a bunch of paperwork, list what medicines I'm out, then if the Dr. likes what he sees, they will schedule an appt for me, which is currently taking 4-6 weeks. I explained I have some current Rxs and could I get a script to keep those going, and Sandy said no. She then went on to explain to me that the Dr. will basically review my history and the medications I'm on to basically see if I'm the kind of patient he wants to take on. What the heck? I found the whole initial… experience and first impressions insulting, demeaning and off-putting. Needless to say, I found another doctor. There are plenty of other primary care physicians who actually care about their patients.

I've seen Dr Sohriakoff for several years and have known him to be completely professional and perfectly competent. He is committed to my total health including AME services.

We have recommended Dr. Sohriakoff to a friend who was really impressed. He takes the time to make sure I understand my problems, and is very thorough in his examinations and tests. My whole family values his service, and we willingly travel a distance to see him.
