Dr. James Brennan Spies is a professor and chair of Radiology at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital in Washington, D.C. He went to Georgetown University School of Medicine, trained in radiology at the University of California, San Francisco, and studied vascular and interventional radiology at NYU. He also earned a Master of Public Health from Johns Hopkins University.
Dr. Spies served four years in the U.S. Air Force, then worked in private practice before joining Georgetown in 1997. He became chair of Radiology in 2005. He is an expert in uterine embolization for fibroids, with over 100 studies published. He also studies treatments for prostate issues and is a leader in his field worldwide.

I just had UFE surgery with Dr. Spies. He explained everything ahead of time and was patient and kind. I was impressed he checked on me later that afternoon and again in the morning before I was discharged. I felt he truly cared about me as his patient.

Is he a good doctor? This guy (don't call him a doctor) disabled me. Hit and run, never feel guilty. Inhuman.

The process of getting an appointment with the Technician for an MRI was very frustrating. The staff was very unprofessional and never answered the telephone. I called repeatedly for 30 minutes and still no answer. Someone in Dr. Spies office tried as well. It took his office approximately 45 minutes to get me scheduled. I thought the nightmare was over until I had to call the Radiology (MRI) to find out the codes for the procedure. Of course after 5 attempts, I finally got a supervisor and she was not knowledgeable of the codes or the cost(s). I was held up on the telephone for approximately 15 minutes before getting an answer. What a nightmare! My most pleasant experience was my appointment with Dr. Spies. He was very thorough in explaining my condition as well as the procedure. I wouldnt recommend the nightmare of getting a MRI but would recommend this doctor to everyone!!!
