Dr. James Oliphant Theis, MD

Dr. Theis was my provider this year. It ended with a horrendous conversation over the phone where he called to follow up on referrals requested after I had a health scare and visit to the Emergency Room. He made my concerns and trip to the ER seem extremely insignificant, saying that because I went to Urgent Care, I was misdiagnosed and ended up in the ER. He was rude, and seemed upset that I would ask for a referral (based on recommendation from the Emergency doctor). I felt unsupported, disregarded, and told him that he was not being kind or compassionate towards his patient which was disheartening. He did not apologize and shared that if I did not like his recommendations, I could find another doctor. That, I will. Unfortunately, this was not surprising; at an appointment earlier in the year, he asked "what's the big deal?" when I shared shared digestion concerns. I wish I would have found another PCP then. I would never recommend him to anyone.

I went to see Dr. Theis about a pain problem recently, and instead was told I needed to see a psychotherapist for some sort of addiction problem he's convinced I have. He did not listen to me, he lorded over the conversation, he talked down to me as if I was a little child being told that 2+2=4, and came off as smugly superior to my other physicians (psychiatrist and dentist) who have prescribed pain medicines or controlled substances for me. He actually had the gall to tell me what he believes my other doctors, who I have been seeing for FAR longer than I have him, should do for me. Sorry, that's not your job, and it's brazenly condescending to my other two excellent, compassionate physicians. No bedside manner whatsoever. He really did seem to think he knows better than two physicians who have a few decades of experience over him. It was very hard to keep a civil tongue while being lectured on how he thinks I feel pain. Sorry, you don't. You're not in my body, you don't get to tell… me something like that. He only cares about what makes his practice look good, not about the worries of the patient. And that makes not only for a sub-par physician, but human being as well.

I wish I could explain everything I went through with this Doctor. He insults people and will argue you down if he does not agree with you and will straight up laugh in your face. Your suppose to consolidate in your Doctor not be insulted and leave there crying your eyes out feeling like something is wrong with you bc that’s the way he made you feel.... and I am not the only person this has happened to!!

Dr. James Theis is a Dogmatist. Instead of actually listening to the patient and access the information bought to him, he stronghold’s the conversation and assert his theory of you and diagnoses you solely based on his opinion. If you don’t agree, well, he simply does not want to hear it. He lacks empathy/sympathy for patients, and remove all emotions when dealing with patients (which make patients feel uneasy and comfortable). This is not solely my opinion, three other counterparts has experience the attitude from him

DR THIES IS A VERY CARING AND THOROUGH DR. HIS PATIENCE AND KINDNESS ARE JUST A PLUS! I RECOMMEND HIM HIGHLY TO ANY ONE WHO MAY BE LOOKING FOR AN EXCELLENT DR ON THE WESTBANK :)

BEST GP I'VE EVER HAD. SPENDS 15 - 25 MINUTES WITH YOU EACH VISIT. VERY FRIENDLY DEMEANOR. VERY THOROUGH.

Dr. Theis really wants his patients to do well so he explains everything and answers all questions and, although his demeanor is relaxed, he listens closely to his patients. He always provides patients their test results and, if needed, will recommend a specialist to handle something that he cannot. He has an excellent, attentive staff.

Nice clean office.He's not at Tulane anymore - he's on the West Bank next to West Jeff hospital in one of the towers there.Very nice doctor and very helpful. Took his time.
