Dr. James Martin Toth, MD

I have left factual reviews on Dr Toth, but somehow they get deleted from the public. My son saw Dr Toth from the age of 8 or 9 as his primary doctor. Nathan trusted him completely which eventually caused his death. Nathan started having severe headaches in his freshman or sophomore year of high school. We consulted Dr Toth about these headaches 2 or more times a year for about 7 years. He always contributed them to things under Nathan’s control, such as weight gain. Nathan was a health nut who only ate fish, chicken breast, and fresh veggies and he worked out at a gym almost every day. I attempted to get the doctor to look at the weight gain and headaches as a symptom of something else going on and that I felt that more testing was necessary. Unfortunately, he didn’t listen and my son trusted his judgment. Finally I had enough of the doctor’s arrogant attitude and asked my neurologist to do an MRI on Nathan. The neurologist noticed that Nathan’s pituitary didn’t look right and… he referred him to a neurosurgeon for another option and more tests. She had an endocrinologist do a pituitary specific MRI and a grape sized tumor was discovered. Nathan was in surgery a few days later. The tumor had erupted and was bleeding into his brain. If the surgery had been put off for even a few days, he would have died then. The tumor returned and again was removed. The delay in getting treatment for the acromegaly (gigantism) that the tumor caused enlarged his heart and Nathan died of a heart attack before another surgery could be preformed. If the tumor had been detected early, it could have been removed and treated without the damaging effects of acromegaly. My son would still be alive. I know that this sounds like pure hopefulness, but even though the odds are astronomical, the girl that grew up across the street from us was diagnosed with the exact same tumor. She was the same age as Nathan. Unlike Dr Toth, when she presented with symptoms that were not normal, her doctor went full fledged investigating what might be the cause. Her tumor was caught in the very early stages and was removed. She is alive and healthy and has follow-up appointments every six months to check her hormone levels and to make sure that the tumor hasn’t returned. If my son had been treated seriously, there is a very good chance that he would be alive and well. Dr Toth’s arrogance and dismissive attitude caused my son’s treatment to be delayed until it was too late. Dr Toth was never held accountable for his failure to diagnose and continues with his practice like nothing ever happened. I wonder if his children have a doctor better than my son had. I went to Kaiser to see Dr. Toth. Wow, worst doctor ever. He had a bad attitude and was very rude. I literally was scared to be with him in the office. I even told him he is making me feel very uncomfortable, but he did not care. Needless to say I will not go back.

Dr Toth has been my primary care physician for over 6 years. He is extremely smart, knowledgeable about all of the latest medical research, drugs, and treatment protocols. He is accessible and doesn’t rush through appointments. Wait times are minimal. He’s not shy about ordering tests or accepting input from other doctors. I had one problem with his office, and Dr Toth took responsibility, even though he really wasn’t involved, remarkable in an era when people look to blame others.
