Dr. James Townsend is very caring, compassionate, warm and friendly towards his patients as well as people in general. Would highly recommend

Is always there when you need him

Dr. Townsend is an excellent doctor and diagnostician. His knowledge of the brain is impressive and he explains everything from diagnosis to medications to what is happening chemically in a patient's brain with amazing clarity. He explains everything in a way that even a child could understand, but he doesn't talk down to people. He is respectful and cares deeply about his patients. He speaks to young people in a way that acknowledges they are the patient, not their parents. But he also includes parents and, without being dismissive, tries to minimize the fear that parents may experience. He's a great doctor. I just wish his office was better staffed - the receptionist is only there from 12-5pm, MWF. But it's worth putting up with that to get the level of care provided.

Thinks that parents are lying about seeing side effects of medication he prescribed. Will find a new doctor for my child.

Dr. Townsend is the most unprofessional doctor I have ever met. Not only did he write and sign a letter with total false statements but he is more concerned with the ego of a special education teacher then the health of a child. He has and is still over medicating a boy with autism to the point that after this boy sleeps a full 8 to 10 hours he wakes to have medication put under his tongue and will sleep for another 6 hours not being able to stay awake at the breakfast table or even at school... This has all been video recorded... several times... Not to mention the excessive weight gain of nearly 75 lbs in about a year in a half... causing stretch marks on his arms, legs, stomach and buttocks and the rashes... This boy two years ago participated in special needs sports... now, he can barely walk... can no longer ride a bike... This is Dr. Townsends answer to having this boys special education mother who feels her reputation is more important than her child's health handle him... Its… very sad to watch as an outsider... I have a nephew who is severely autistic and my sister in law was appalled when she saw this video and is counting her blessings that she did not follow Dr. Townsend... Please if you love your child... do not take him/her to Dr. Townsend...

We have a son with Down Syndrome that struggles with OCD and mild depression that no physician was willing to meet our son and diagnose or treat him. Our son was withdrawn and not communicating or socializing at all. Dr. Townsend spent an hour and a half at our first Appt. and helped not only our son, but us, giving us names of others people that could help our son and prescribe meds for him. It has been one year and we have our son back again. He is happy,social and enjoying life to the fullest. I cannot recomemnd him highly enough.

My son has severe ADHD and is a patient of dr.townsend. We had a family vacation planned and when I counted his pills we would have run out in the middle of our cruise ( not good for all passengers and crew). I called the office early to speak to talk to dr. And left message by 5 there was no no contact. I called his cellphone and in minutes he was given the information and my pharmacist #. He even called me back to inform me that I could pick meds ups and to have a good vacation. You don't come across many docs like this. He is Great.
