Dr. James Robert Vanhorne, MD

I had my left and right knee replaced five years ago. Surgery went well on left knee and I have had no problems or paint. Unfortunately when I had my right knee replaced three months later I suffered a tendon tear as I tried to stand immediately after surgery which required a second knee surgery to repair the year. As a result I have had constant pain in this knee. I recently returned to see if Dr Vanhorne could help me get some relief and he was very helpful in getting a x-ray and to examine my knee to see what could be done to give me relief from pain. His office has sent me notices regarding my present condition but I never took advantage of seeing anyone so I don't blame the doctor, but I do feel that he may not have made sure my repaired knee was secured so it would not tear. I will never have surgery again scheduled in the late afternoon as I believe they have to many patients scheduled so they may rush late surgeries and bring on the problems and pain I have endured for 5… years. I am in therapy as Dr Vanhorne suggested I try so I do appreciate that he is concerned and trying to get me some help. He took a long time examining and talking to me and I do appreciate that.

My experience with Dr. Vanhorne was awesome. He walked me through everything and made me feel safe. Even when I told him I was very nervous and scared about getting an epidural. He talked me through it and I was okay and felt great after surgery! I know if I ever had to have another surgery I would go to Dr. Vanhorne.

Dr. Van Horn is an excellent surgeon. He keeps up to date on methods and protocols. even changing them as new information becomes known. For a surgeon, he is surprisingly warm, genuine and caring. His information packets for pre and post op are very thorough and covers everything you'll need. In my opinion, he could use more office help as his is a very busy office.

My final check was amazing - Dr. Vanhorne is an excellent doctor. If all my doctors were like him going on a medical visit would be a joy.

The best hip replacement orthopedic surgent you will find. Follow his program like I did and be playing golf again after eight weeks.

The doctor is obviously very competent, and generally gets a preponderance of excellent, anecdotal references. He has a very rigid protocol and that works quite well for most of his patients, apparently. However, the practice is clearly structured as an assembly line, with each level of care giver assigned a very narrow responsibility, and there is little evidence of communication from one person to another. The doctor considers every patient to be the 'average' patient around which his protocol is built. Adjustments to this protocol, or his treatment of individual patients, is not in the 'script'. I am satisfied with my outcome, but I found the interaction with the doctor impersonal and sometimes even distracted.
