Dr. James Marvin Vest, MD

Someone should take the rights to practice medicine and play doctor away from this man immediately! My first visit with dr. Vest was a waste of 3 minutes of my life (yes, 3 minutes, because that’s all the time that he apparently had to spend with me, a new patient, that day) and a waste of $95 for the co-pay. The reason for my visit was to discuss changing my medications due to that fact that my current medications have had no affect after have had trying them for a solid 10 months. But all that was accomplished during this visit was being told he needs my medical records from my other doctor, which I feel like someone could have easily told me over the phone to save me the time and money spent on this pointless visit! We left off with Dr. Vest telling me once he received my medical records and was able to review them I would be contacted to schedule another appointment in order to discuss changing my medications. You would think he could have cut me a break on the co-pay considering… absolutely NOTHING came out of my visit that day, or even just reduced it, any small amount would have been better than nothing. So after 3 weeks of calling the office literally almost every day (because although, I was told they would contact me, it goes w/o saying that never happened) and also calling my other doctor’s office with them telling me they had still not received the release form that I filled out the day of my visit in order for them to fax the records over. Basically, Dr, Vest and his entire staff are either incompetent or just flat out lazy. So after calling and waiting one month and two weeks for someone at his office to simply fax one form over I ended up Driving from Myrtle Beach (where I live) to MUSC in Charleston, ( where my other doctor and my medical records are) to pick up my own medical records. I drove straight from Charleston to Dr. Vest’s office in Surfside and hand delivered my medical records to the receptionist. After another 3 weeks went by ( that I was still calling everyday) I was told on the phone that had 3 prescriptions waiting for me. Very confused and wondering what these prescriptions could possibly be for since I haven’t seen Dr. Vest since our last visit where we had left off that we would need to schedule another appointment after he received/reviewed my medical records to discuss changing my current medications. Turns out, he had written me the same exact prescriptions that I was getting from my doctor at MUSC that I had told him in our brief 3 minute visit that I was there to try to see what my options were about changing these medications due to the fact that they have had no affect within the last 10 months of me taking them. 2 weeks after picking up these prescriptions, but not getting them filled ( which means going without any medication at all) because I was worried that getting them filled would possibly counter act what I was going to him for in the first place, which is switching my meds, I finally was able to make another appointment with him. So here we are almost 3 months later, I spent an hour 1/2 in the waiting room before being called back and then another hour in the room after seeing the nurse waiting for him to come in and see me. Now, I don’t even know where to begin with how this visit went! After waiting for over 3 hours The whole visit lasted maybe all of 2 minutes total, no exaggeration with him coming in not at all apologetic about how long I had been waiting and going straight into telling me there’s nothing he can do to help me, while I was not given the chance to talk or explain my situation to him, and him being just beyond rude and just flat out mean! He ended what barely got started by saying “ we’re just not a good fit” “ I’m done with this” and walked right out the room on me without any explanation or anything. I was left in tears, feeling extremely frustrated and angry. Never in my life have I experience anything like this! I am still in disbelief at how I was treated by this so called “doctor” and the i professionalism that was portrayed! If anyone is thinking about going to Dr. Vest as a new patient I just want you to be prepared for how extremely heartless and cold this man is. I went in with high hopes of tackling the severe depression and anxiety I have been dealing with for so long only to be left feeling defeated, belittled, and degraded. It is beyond me how a person who’s profession is supposed to be to help people can act in such a way that makes his patients feel even worse after leaving. I went to high school and graduated with his daughter so I can’t help but wonder how he would feel or react if someone not even a doctor treated his own daughter the way I was treated today. Unfortunately this is his own practice so there is no one higher up than him that I can take this to, but I will make a stand and let anyone and everyone know that this man is not out there trying to help people, he is only there to take your money while making you feel less than for absolutely no reason whatsoever!

He has been my primary care for a decade moved to Charleston and look for a new doctor and each time would drive the two hours to see Vest. Also he has a wicked sense of humorn

He has been my doctor for over 20 years. I wouldn't trust anyone else. He's extremely understanding, and I appreciate everything he's done for my family.

My husband and I haver been going to Dr. Vest for many years. He is always showing concern for any ailment we may have. I recently had to go to an ER that he was not affiliated with, and he immediately got my records faxed to him while I was in his office, and guided me to the next step I must take to get well again. He refers me to only the best specialists I have ever dealt with. When I went to him today, he looked at the new records and arranged for immediate care before I could get any worse!
