We were recommended to this Carilion clinic back in 2015 when our child first show signs of absence seizure. Three months later we had an appointment to see Wilson. Our first impression of Wilson and the staffs (receptionist) at this clinic was very disappointing. The warmth of welcoming a first time patient to this clinic was not there. Especially, for a frighten 5 year old child in a scary environment. Basically, the welcoming was cold from the receptionist. It seems like she did not like doing her job, she was showing attitude, attitude... Once we finished filling out the necessary paper works then the nurse took us back to one of the room. She then proceeded to check my child's pulse and blood pressure. That's all normal and routine.. Wilson came in shortly after the nurse, he introduced himself then began the hyperventalation test. A few times my child did stopped from blowing on the paper because she had one of her episode. This was all that was done in the first… visit. Again, I was disappoint because I was not educated from the visit about Absence seizure from Wilson or the staff. The knowledge on Absence Seizure I had gained was zero after talking to Wilson. As a concern parent, I wanted to be well educated about the epilepsy and how to handle it properly moving forward. I had to learn everything from the internet about my child's absence seizure, not from Wilson. Every visit, I would ask Wilson couple of questions about my child's seizure, he would answer the questions very vague. The first thing Wilson did was prescribed pills for the absence seizure after an EEG test result. Over the years, the medicine had been increased but no improvements. Several months ago, I received called a voicemail informing us that our appointment was cancelled and they don't know when to reschedule for the next appointment. I had called back a couple of times to the clinic and asked what is my child next appointment. No answers or leads at all to this day. It has been close to a year now that my child has not been seen by Wilson while actively on medicine prescribed by Wilson. This is a clear case of "Silent Dismissal" from the clinic without reasons. The clinic clearly knows Wilson schedules and they definitely knows when he has a open schedule to see my child. We are searching for another pediatrician neurologist for my child to monitor the absence seizure. I will report this to the medical board at Carilion. This is not acceptable and unprofessional.
