Dr. James Robert Woods, MD

A total failure of care I am sharing my experience to warn other women about the lack of oversight I faced with Dr. Woods. I went to him specifically asking for bioidentical hormones, but he prescribed synthetic hormones (progestin) instead. He never explained the difference between the two or disclosed that synthetic progestogens carry a much higher risk for breast cancer than bioidentical options. Despite the fact that I was taking these hormones and have dense breast tissue—two significant risk factors—he never once educated me on the importance of getting annual mammograms. He also failed to order yearly mammograms for over three years. This neglect allowed a breast tumor to grow undetected for nearly three and a half years. Yes, I got breast cancer under Dr. Woods' care, and this cancer went undetected because he never educated me on the risks, and he did not order my screenings. Please be your own advocate and insist on your own screenings if you see this doctor. I learned… the hard way that he was not monitoring the risks or following basic safety protocols.

Dr. Woods is the only obgyn that was willing to listen closely to a 68 yr old post menopausal women who has numerous times tried to get off of HRT after not having any luck and after having all my female organs removed at the age of 46 yrs. I feel 100% better since he adjusted my estradiol dosage and put me on testosterone cream. I would recommend him in a second to anyone going through menopause or post menopausal who is having symptoms regardless of age. He is a specialist in this area.
