Dr. Jamie Steven Barkin, MD

Dr. Barkin is way to old to continue as a doctor. I have no problems with older doctors but this man doesn't know how to speak to patients and just doesn't know how to do his job. He will send you out to do some scans and blood work and when its time for him to review everything with you, he acts like he can't find them in his hospital's portal. Either he can't do it or just wants to waste patients' time. During my appointment he became very frustrated that he couldn't find the scans even though I confirmed with the hospital that they did have them, he became very nasty and gave really bizarre analogies. On top of that, he sent a false report to my other GI doctor about things that were never discussed which infuriated her with me. Do yourself a favor, and don't use this doctor. Your life depends on it.

Homophobic

Dr. Barkin has taken great care of my husband for a few years. He has been wonderful and I would recommend him for your gastrointestinal needs. He is very thorough and does everything in his power to treat you. His assistant, however is fairly useless. She is not quick to answer emails and it takes weeks, sometimes over a month to get responses via the hospital portal. Goodness forbid that the doctor recommends that you be seen at Mayo Clinic, if so, go ahead and get it all started on your own, because you will get little to no help from the doctor's assistant. Even after Mayo Clinic requested records, directly to his office, the assistant contacted me to tell me that I needed to call the UM Records department to get said records sent to Mayo, and yes, this is after the doctor himself referred my husband to Mayo in the first place. I am utterly disappointed in lack of assistance with something that should be considered, in my opinion, intra-hospital dealings. My husband has now had to… wait, while suffering, approximately 2 more months to get the help he needs (this is after over 2.5 years of unsuccessful treatment) and now it will be longer as I have to take care of gathering records etc.

This doctor is a RUDE uncaring person. He did not listen to my detailed story. He wouldn't look at my records that I confirmed were in the system for over 3 weeks. He wouldn't answer any of my detailed questions. He just went through the motions of dictating notes and clicks checkboxes on his PC to CYA. He was ZERO help. Kept saying he would order tests that I currently already had done which he would review. Just going through the motions. He is past his prime needs to retire.

Dr. Barkin is the best. He saved my husband´s life with his accurate diagnosis and effective emergency management skills. Caring and dedicated; a remarkable doctor.

Dr. Jamie Barkin was exceptionally proficient, extremely thorough and patient friendly during my examination,. He immediately research my extensive medical background with confidence, discussed my medications that I was taking, and asked the right questions that gave me total confidence to proceed with for my colonoscopy, Dr. Judi Woolger, Director Executive Medicine & my Primary Care Physician, Gina Badaracco my Champion Program Patient Associate, Dr. Wu, Marta Yerde, Olga Hapitan, and Audrey Stewart orchestrated my Outpatient procedure like a symphony including seamless turn-key operations, professional Can-Do and Help attitude, painless procedure, and effective positive outcome . Dr Barkin has seen me through cancer and many other digestive problems I have. He is brusk sometimes and hates to feel he cannot provide relief from problems but do not take that attitude as uncaring ...just the opposite. It is his unhappiness at not being able to cure you with a touch. He will continue to research what he can do for you. He is the best.

The worst experience with a Doctor I ever had. His bedside manner was very poor. He is so egotistical. He scheduled tests that I have already taken, its tells me he never looked at my file. Costs me time and money and I would never recommend him to anyone.

After seeing a few GI doctors I was referaled to Dr Barkin.At my first visit he spend 35 min asking me about my problems.After few tests he found my problem and recomend surgery which sold my problems.He care about his pations like nobody else.One time I came to ER with pain and he visit me at 11:30 Pm to find out my problems and help me.Look at the dictionary under doctors you will see Dr.Barkin picture.BEST OF THE BEST.

This doctor is typical of many doctors today. If you don't have a run of the mill illness he just sends you off to someone else. But not until after running up huge bills with the insurance company and prescribing the most expensive medication available.
