Summary
Born in Hawaii and of Asian descent, Dr. Jan Jay grew up in a family that utilized both Chinese and Western medicine.
Two incidents in her life led her to the career path she now leads: At the age of 12, she had a near death experience when her airway swelled shut while she was sick with croup. She spent 3 months in intensive care due to complications, and attributes her survival to the innovation of allopathic medicine. Then at the age of 21, while pursuing her studies at the University of California Irvine, she was involved in a serious car accident. Doctors told her she was permanently, partially disabled. Unwilling to accept that fate, she sought alternative care for her rehabilitation, and acupuncture was one of the therapies she employed.
Dr. Jay began her formal training in Chinese medicine at the Tai Hsuan Foundation in Honolulu, and completed her degree at the International Institute of Chinese Medicine in Albuquerque and Santa Fe.
Following graduation, she continued to …expand her knowledge and skill by completing training at The Academy of Advanced Integrative Medicine where she was able to achieve Expanded Practice certification, the highest NM licensure designation for DOM’s — Expanded Practice. She is certified in Chelation Therapy through the American College of Advancement in Medicine (ACAM), has extensive training in Bio-identical Hormone Replacement therapy (BHRT) through the American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine, and has studied oxidative therapies with Dr. Lamberto Re & Dr. Frank Shallenberger. She has also completed advanced training in nutrient infusion therapies through both ACAM & A4M.
Dr. Jay’s passion is in the practice of “Functional Medicine”, in which she draws upon her different areas of training to restore or optimize a patient’s health.
