They don’t care about patients.

Dr Shifren is best and I feel so fortunate she was our Doctor for our infertility needs. Her positive energy, ability to provide so much information in such a human way, and just general reassuring presence made a very difficult process so much easier. We’ve used dr Shifren twice now - once when living in Boston at MGH and a second time at Newton Wellesly. We have one little toddler and another on the way. I am so grateful - the process was not easy and took various treatments but she helped us get there emotionally and physically. Thank you Dr. Shifren - I cannot imagine a more charismatic, smart and positive doctor (and I’ve met many!). I also want to say her office staff are amazing, most recently at newton Wellesley -from Kim at reception to Grace (obsessed with Grace) who took my blood sometimes daily to Zusana, an incredibly smart, kind and thoughtful nurse - the entire team was wonderful. I highly recommend this practice.

I certainly do not recommend Dr.Jan Shifren. She did not review my test results thoroughly. She rushes and brushes and misses the key points in the patient’s test results. Unfortunately, there is not a scene of care towards quality of patients treatment. I went through such emotional turmoil and had to get second opinions. I hope patients read this and seek alternative for their treatment.

Jan Shifren is an uncaring and unempathetic doctor. Don't mistake the fake smile for actual caring. We had two cycles with her but at the retrieval for the second one she did not actually recognize me after multiple appointments. Both cycles were complete disasters due to negligent protocols/messed up triggers. A subsequent cycle with a different RE outside of MGH was successful. Also, something is wrong with her affect. She was so "cheerful" and hyper at the retrieval that I wondered whether she was on drugs. Later at the recovery two nurses (?) were gossiping about her and how she was "crazy." If her staff don't respect her, something has to be wrong.

Dr Shifren ruined our chance of ever having a baby by a greedy, self-serving decision she made during the treatment. Instead of cancelling a cycle at the start when my wife had a large cyst she went ahead with it and exhausted the money we had saved for a baby with awful results. We didn't know until a subsequent doctor told us he would not have ever started a cycle with a 13mm follicle. We picked her because she was at MGH, should have done our research. If you want to have a baby, stay away from this woman. And frankly, stay away from this service, it took us years to retrieve money they had overbilled us for.

Dr. Shifren’s practice is understaffed, impatient, and unequipped to manage the volume of patients she accepts. They do not have proper emergency coverage or protocol in place. Would not recommend to my worst enemy.

I do not doubt Dr. Shifren’s competence. However, a compassionate bedside manner is lacking, which also has been publicly noted by her other patients, past and present. There was a bit of drama surrounding why I drank water two hours prior to my retrieval procedure, and Dr. Shifren Doctor Shifren had no patience to entertain the possibility that messages get miscommunicated and/or misheard. In her world it was either people were being honest or not. And since she already decided that the staff had absolute integrity, it meant that I the patient didn’t. I guess she works if you don't have conflicts with her, if there are conflicts then she adopts the 'best defense is a good offense' approach. I had a good retrieval though, but that's the result of all the doctors and staff working together. I personally wouldn't choose to work with her if I could help it.

The worst Dr I've ever been to in my entire life. She doesn't answer questions, passes everything off, is patronizing, disingenuous, condescending, defensive, arrogant, worst bedside manner, rushes thru appts & wasted 6 months of our time. My husband & I were appalled after we met with her. My husband actually thought it was a joke because it felt like she was literally out of an SNL skit with her fake smile, voice & attitude. Any other ivf Dr would be better than her. She's ruining MGH's reputation.

Dr Shifren is an excellent doctor. I have seen her many times due to infertility treatment. I am 2 months pregnant thanks to Dr Shifren.
