I had a recent OB-GYN appointment that left me feeling dismissed and unheard. During the visit, the doctor repeatedly emphasized that she would only follow medical guidelines, despite my insurance covering annual preventive care. When I explained that I had confirmed my coverage directly with my insurance company, she stated that because I see two doctors it seemed like I was “taking advantage of the system.” That comment felt unfair and accusatory given that I was simply trying to understand and use my benefits appropriately. She also made a comment about hoping my current doctor “sticks around,” which felt unnecessary and unrelated to my care. I left the appointment upset and in tears, feeling unsupported. This experience stood out to me because I did not feel listened to or respected during the visit.
