Dr. Jane Malan Kao, MD

My daughter was diagnosed with Tetrology of Fallot in Utero in late 2004. We visited Dr. Kao's office and her staff was outstanding and compassionate. What I remember most about Dr. Kao was if she was not at her office, she was at the hospital checking on her post op patients. I would joke with her that she had "no life", but looking back now, I think this was her life and she loved it.

I was referred to Dr. Kao by my PCP when he heard a heart murmur in my son’s chest at his 4 month wellness check up. When i called to make the appointment, the staff were dry, non-helpful, and did not tell me beforehand what services and tests would be done for my son’s visit. I drove an hour thinking I was going to have a consultation. When i walked in, her reception staff was rude and unwelcoming. They told me he would be having an EKG and echocardiogram done. I was surprised as they did not tell me this beforehand. We were there for 2 hours, waiting 30 minutes past my appointment time, took 30 minutes to take an eKG and oxygen (which the nurse still didn’t know how to do and dr. Kao did it in 5 minutes), and an echo. While doing the echo, the sonogram tech told me we might want to sedate him next time if he was going to be this active, which drove me crazy that she would even suggest that to me. Dr. Kao herself is an amazing physician and seems passionate about her work. Her staff… is just rude and unwelcoming. And when I called again after my appointment to adjust my bill, the first time a lady yelled at me “please hold” and kept me on hold for 10 minutes. I hung up and called a second time and another lady answered me and couldn’t give me any information on the payment plan I had agreed with them on weeks prior. All in all, dr. Kao is great but her staff is the worst reception staff I have encountered.

My visit with Dr Mao was with my daughter and her newborn of less than two weeks old as the patient. She was referred of course by her pediatrition. As a health care provider I have learned to expect a caring and compassionate especially in the world of pediatric. This was not the case here. Due to waiting on insurance claims to be filed, and deductible; this Dr expected full payment to service rendered and was not willing to file the claim or bill. So because my daughter could not pay the full amount of anticipated service SHE WOULD NOT SEE THE BABY! A newborn that could have possibly been in great need of her services, was turned away unseen! My response is,looking for the $$$ and not to provide a service of care or caring if device is given to the ill.

I was referred to Dr. Kao by the emergency doctor at Medical City after my daughter's heart appeared to be enlarged. After the wonderful experience we had with the emergency room I was confident that the level of service would carry over. BOY WAS I WRONG! Her staff has the compassion of a tow truck driver. My puppy had a cardiologist, we had better service for my pet than my daughter. It hurts my heart to know people like this work with children. Wouldn't recommend Dr. Kao and her staff to my worst enemy.

Dr. Kao is the best. She has been taking care of my youngest daughter since before she was born. I trust her with my daughter's life. I cannot compliment Dr. Kao enough.

Dr. Kao is great. Dr. Kao diagnosed my daughter's heart condition while my daughter was still in the womb. Dr. Kao recommended the best surgeon for my daugher's repair and has followed through on my daughter's treatment. I trust Dr. Kao completely and would do anything she recommended. The staff is always great and accomadating.

Dr. Kao was asked to see our new born in the hospital on the day our baby was born. She eased our worries by taking time to our room and explaining everything clearly. I definitely appreciated all efforts she had taken to make there and her accurate diagnosis give us joy back.

Dr, Kao is an incredible cardiologist and an amazing person. SHe saved my daughters life 12 1/2 years ago. Without her diagnosis immediately she would not be here today. SHe has incredible bed side manners. My daughter had immediated open heart surgery, without her dignosis I don't know what would have happened. The day we met her was the day my daughter had emergency surgery. She was in congestive heart failure and no body new it. THank you Dr. Kao. We owe you so much!
