I love this place and the people!! Even better, my children love them more. They make them comfortable and actually show compassion towards myself & my children.

My grandson fell off of a lofted bed in Las Vegas, underwent a subdural hematoma evacuation at Children's Hospital Nevada and my social work student daughter was charged with child abuse. Ours was a unique situation in that we were allowed to get acquainted with the foster family and were privy to his recovery rather than simply relying on the verbal prognosis provided by the district attorney or on the conflicting medical reports that we had in our possession. Needless to say when we got our baby back to California, despite his appearance of being perfectly healthy and normal, we wanted to have our own evaluations done. My son-in-law remembered a doctor's office where his mother used to take him when he was a little boy and that is how we came to Kids & Teens Medical Group. Our first appointment was in December. I stopped by a few days early to fill out the medical release forms for the doctors in Nevada, anticipating that the records may be there in time for our appointment. They… weren't. My grandson was examined by an intern. We saw Dr De Silva for a few minutes, relayed our concerns and asked for referrals to specialists at Children's Hospital Los Angeles. After waiting in the room for at least a half hour, we finally asked if we were done and were told that we were. In April, I called to see whatever happened to the referrals...Nothing. They blamed it on changes with the insurance - OK, even if it WERE the insurance - could they not have COMMUNICATED with us about it, so that it could be rectified? Finally, I just started doing the legwork myself, literally - I made appointments with CHLA, called the CEO's office of the insurance co and worked down the ladder and drove downtown LA to pick up his insurance card, so we were all set for our May 11 appointment. Wrong. In early May I got a call from CHLA telling me that the authorizations were denied & gave me the correct codes to use, which I then relayed to Kids & Teens. Several calls later I learned that the authorizations were denied because the written diagnosis did not match the codes. I won't even get started on Kids & Teens wonky phone system, suffice it to say that I drove down to speak with the office manager to intervene with the person who does the authorizations. Turns out they are one and the same and incidentally, also the same person who never followed up on getting his medical records from Nevada until I came in and made the call myself. In all fairness, I have to say that there are actually two people in that office who are exceptionally good and caring: Toni at the front desk and Rita whom they inherited along with another doctor. Long story short, between myself, Rita, CHLA and the insurance company, we only had to reschedule his first appointment and everything turned out beautifully. Ironic that Dr De Silva's bio states that she is on the board of that very insurance company. On other occasions we have seen Dr Barbara Rodriguez, who is excellent, and is the reason we stayed with Kids & Teens. A couple of months ago I learned that my granddaughter was not able to get a vaccination because the insurance did not cover it, so I stopped by to see which shot it was to have it done at CHAP. It was a day of errands and I happened by just after noon and met up with one of the office staff in the parking lot who told me that I needed to come back after 1:30. She stressed that they were entitled to take a lunch. I told her I just needed to ask a question and mentioned that many businesses stagger their lunches so that they can better accommodate their clientele. Then I went inside and Toni printed me out the insurance page with the vaccination name. The same girl that I had spoken to outside came back in and Toni assured her that she was going to lunch right after she printed out the page. A few weeks later, both my grandson and granddaughter received certified letters from Kids & Teens, stating something about the relationship between doctors and their patients and that they would no longer be treating "Nicholas." Neither my grandson nor my granddaughter is named Nicholas, so I emailed them to find out if the letters were intended for us or not. No response. The original Kids & Teens Medical Group belonged to Dr Peter Jackson - That would be the pediatrician that my son-in-law remembered. The Drs De Silva (husband & wife team) are in actuality business people who bought existing practices in 2007, hired a large percentage of bargain basement staff, and now have a multiple office business. The Drs apparently see no value in clear-cut communication and do so well that they discard any family who expects them to do their job and to do it properly. What many in the medical field fail to understand is that along with the lucrative salary come responsibilities that are not present in other fields. Sorry Docs - you can train a monkey to do procedure, but that monkey cannot apply reason - and apparently you are satisfied with that.

I take my four-year-old and six month old to Dr. De Silva. I always find her pleasant and concerned. She seems to like children (not what I've experienced with other pediatricians) and I feel that we are well cared for. As with most medical offices I've visited, you can expect to wait a bit for the appointment - nothing outrageous and the staff are kind and courteous. The fish tank in the waiting room is a big plus for my son :)

I was very disappointed for choosing Dr. DE Silva to treat my new baby.I had my baby 6 weeks ahead of time meaning he needed extra care and attention.After 3 weeks at the NICU he was released with a very high John Dice.When we got to the KIDS AND TEENS clinic at Northridge I was surprised to find not a very clean place, dust was everywhere,not a single stuff member was nice or smiled they all acted as if they were robots.Dr. De Silva came into the office after my baby was undressed for 25 minutes.At that time I went to the front desk twice to ask when is doctor going to come in and I was assured she is taking a phone call at the office, at the same moment I watched her coming in from the front door!!!!During the meeting she showed lack of information(since the charting was poorly done)and even lack of knowledge my baby suffers from a blood disorder and should not be taking certain medication,she was about to prescribe him one of them!!! I was the one to mention he should not be taking… it.I was answered very poorly and with no manners to my questions as if I was bothering her. That day I received a phone call from Dr, De Silva who wanted to inform me of test results of my baby,she did not have them in front of her,she quoted the results from the memory,it was different from what she left on my answering machine...when I asked her to bring the papers and then we can discuss the results she yelled at me and then hang up in my face!!!When I called a minute later and asked to talk to her she was with a patient and it took her 3 days to call and apologized saying the office was packed with people and she was nervous.I never take the time to write reviewers, this is my first time.Avoid Dr. De Silva at any cost she is unprofessional,unpleasent and dangerous for our babies!

Dr. De Silva is my mom and she is a good doctor and mom.
