Wonderful Doctor

Dr Murphy is patient, thorough, and cares deeply about her patients. I feel so fortunate that she has been my oncologist. I am confused by the one star reviews. For those considering Dr Murphy, I promise that she is a superb doctor who will take great care of you.

I've read the reviews of Dr. Murphy and am bothered by the fact that she got five star reviews from most of her patients but a one star review from one other, who, for some reason, submitted two of the same comments on one day and a third a year later. Obviously, this individual has a problem and is an outlier. Let me give you my experience. Dr. Murphy made the diagnosis of my stage 3 esophageal-gastric cancer, and then assembled the superb teams that gave me 4 months of chemotherapy, six weeks of chemo-radiation, and ultimately surgically removal of my tumor. Throughout my treatment, she was knowledgeable, approachable, and able to comment on the suitability of the multiple treatment modalities I had learned about on the web. I learned that she and her MGH team are publishing research papers in the field of GI oncology, which ensures that she is on the cutting edge of the field. Her bedside manner is superb. She listened patiently, explained things clearly, and was respectful… of me and my family who asked lots of questions. We had complete confidence in her and her treatment recommendations. As well, her follow-up on our case has been excellent as we're now 18 months post-op., without any recurrence. With her managing my care, we remain hopeful. Another indication of her excellence is the esteem that her MGH peers have for her. We observed how her fellow doctors relied on her for problem-solving and advice, listening closely when she came up with observations and recommendations. The nursing staff described her as "the best" as did the technicians that took blood and did other tests. Bottom line: how fortunate we are to live in Boston near the MGH, where superb physicians like Dr. Murphy provide care. I recommend her enthusiastically and without reservation.

I came to Dr Janet Murphy at Mass General Hospital in 2014 with terminal colon cancer, suffering severe fentanyl-patch level pain. After two weeks with her treatment my pain was gone and since then she has met every challenge we have had with expert cool-headed compassion and efficiency resulting in optimal care and quality of life. She is flexible and supremely well informed on the very latest innovations and advances in cancer care such that I have exceeded all expectations of how long I could survive with my disease. She has saved my life time and time again while minimizing the discomfort of side effects. I look forward to more years with her knowing I am in the best possible hands.

Does not check patient files prior to visit, fails to examine patient. Team is unable to read her notes in her absence. Too busy with her own issues to provide patient care. Medicine mistakes as well! Pick another doc. MGH has so many wonderful docs, steer clear of this one! Incompetent.

Doesn't review patient records, rushes through extremely late appointments, has committed medication error that, if not caught by other personnel, could have had very serious consequences for patient and became belligerent when asked for an explanation for lack of professional attention.

Do not go to this doctor.
