Dr. Janet Lee Pederson, MD

She was recommended by my daughter's OB/GYN when gyn, hospitalization and gastroenterology tests did not give us a cause for ongoing pain. She is a quiet person & did minimal testing (vitals, blood, etc.). She prescribed Percocet for pain. After a follow-up visit and our concern that pain pills could lead to dependence (not our desire nor did we request Percocet) and possible referral to a specialist, we were put off to wait and see. In the meanwhile we called her staff to have them ask her about our concerns about getting too many prescriptions for Percocet and to ask her how much is too much. After waiting 4 days for a response, and our requesting a print out from the one pharmacy chain we were using, we got a cell phone message from Dr. Pederson telling us in a tone of anger and insult that she would not be prescribing any pain meds, nor would anyone in that clinic be doing so and that we were obviously going around to miscellaneous doctors and pharmacies in Denver to get pain… pills. We drew the conclusion that she did not get the proper and accurate phone message from us through her staff. I called and asked to speak directly to her. She called early the next day and didn't seem to know why I called. I explained our intention and reminded her that only 3 other medical practicioners (in private practice and in ER) had prescribed Percocet prior to herself and we had told her who these people were initially. We also explained that we had obtained a print out of recent prescriptions from the one retail pharm. we used and have not received an answer from her as to how much Percocet is too much. I also demanded an apology for her rude and unprofessional behavior toward us. She said that she understood the situation better now and did give me an apology. We probably will never see her again nor her inept staff. We have since been referred to a pain specialist who concludes that since the initial infection had been treated by antibiotics and the annoying and still present cyst(for 3 months) had disappeared just before her laparoscopy and that there no hernias or ulcers found that she may have built up muscle/ligament spasms from stress and vomitting and perhaps relative back difficulties. They are scheduling a pain block injection to manage the pain. Some pain must be tolerated in life. None of these treatments or tests or exploratory surgeries were necessary prior to her cyst infection in mid January. My daughter hasn't taken any pain meds, including Ibuprofin, in years. She has neck.GERD and IBS challenges as well and has "toughed them out" as pain meds hurt her stomach. Note: Percocet is not dispensed with a stomach treatment medication, as it is hard on the stomach by itself. Why is it the med of choice? These meds are very expensive!Dr. Pederson may have been good with other patients but our experience was cool to extremely negative and practically useless. I explained this to our Ob/Gyn who didn't care to hear about it. There are good doctors out there somewhere and we have found a compassionate and helpful pain care. doctor so far.

She's great.

My mother-in-law was seeing Dr. Pederson as her primary care physician for about 9 months. Last week, she was in a very serious car accident. Her insurance changed to Medicare since the last time she had been seen. When we showed up at the doctor's office, we were told that they no longer accept Medicare patients. They waive this policy for patients that have been there for two years or more, but refused to waive this policy for my mother-in-law who showed up at the office with two black eyes and bruises all over her body. They were very unsympathetic and did not even offer to provide us with referrals to a doctor who would see us. It was a very disturbing experience and this practice just lost three patients over it. I would not recommend this particular practice to anyone.

Several months ago I made an appointment with Dr. Janet Pederson for my annual check up and pap smear. During my physical the Dr. asked if I have been experiencing any health problems or concerns. I presented a printed list of symptoms Ive been keeping track of which were in line with a thyroid disorder. My mother was diagnosed with a thyroid disorder several months ago and I realized I was experiencing the same symptoms. Dr. Pederson took a look at my list and instead of offering help she told me I needed to see a psychiatrist! I was insulted and offended that she did not take my concerns seriously so I asked for a referral for an endocrinologist. She agreed that I had something going on and that a visit with an endocrinologist would be helpful. During my pap smear we discussed birth control options and I explained that I am not using birth control pills because of the strong side effects I experience and asked about alternative methods. Dr. Pederson explained how a diaphragm was used… then proceeded to prescribe birth control pills saying that it would help my cramps and acne! Obviously she wasnt listening since I just explained that I did not want to take birth control pills! I have never experienced such apathy or disappointment with a primary care physician. To add additional insult I received a large bill for my visit. I spoke with the billing department at Ponderosa Family Physicians telling them there had to be a mistake because my visit was my annual exam which is covered completely by insurance. The billing department went to Dr. Pederson to ask why the visit had not been coded as an annual exam. Her response was that she felt she deserved to bill the visit at a higher cost because of the significant amount of time she spent addressing my concerns! Obviously I am beyond furious that this doctor could have the nerve to think that she did anything worth being paid more than she deserved. She not address any of my health concerns adequately nor did she offer solutions. I guess she feels that a patient should keep their mouth shut and not ask any questions during an annual exam. I have since seen a wonderful endocrinologist who prescribed medicine for my thyroid and I have seen a remarkable improvement in my health! It is so nice to finally have a doctor who cares about his patients and their well being! I will not be paying the $152.63 bill for my annual physical visit to Dr. Janet Pederson. It was an annual exam and I feel that she is practicing medical fraud by billing it otherwise. I will NEVER return to Dr. Pederson and would not recommend her to anyone!
