Dr. Janet Concetta Tufaro, MD

Throughly educated me on a serious medical issue including associated risks

On Monday 11/4 I had blood work done. My regular doctor was out. I was told to come in immediately. Dr. Tufaro came into the room and bluntly told me, "You have stage 4 kidney failure." She said my GFR was 17 and anything below 15 was end-stage renal failure. She just read a number off a sheet of paper. (The number was incorrect) She did not take any time to actually look at my body for any of the tell-tale signs of kidney failure, such as swollen feet or ask me if my urine was dark or if I had insomnia or back pain or any of the other signs of kidney failure. Needless to say I was taken aback and extremely upset. I know my body, and what she had just told my didn't ring true...and indeed it wasn't. The blood test was flawed and I do not have kidney failure. She didn't seem to think it strange that I was feeling good through all four stages of renal failure. I didn't see my regular doctor until a few days later, but was stressed and depressed for days. Her attitude was very… dismissive and uncaring toward me. She came across as if she couldn't care less. Her demeanor and attitude was totally contrary to her profile on the Medical Associates website that states, "Dr. Tufaro conducts her appointments with the personalized care and attention that she would expect for her own family. Dr, Tufaro's philosophy of patient care is based on compassion." Sounds great, Unfortunately, I was not the recipient of this great care and compassion. I was going to contact State and National medical review boards on this matter but decided to address this with her personally in a letter and asked that she reflect on how she 'treated' me on that day and how it affected me physically and emotionally. Unfortunately, I have heard nothing from her in response to my letter. And that speaks volumes as to her caring and compassion...and competence.

Dr. Tufaro is a wonderful caring doctor. She spends the necessary time listening to her patients and diagnosing the problem. I would highly recommend her. Her office staff on the other hand is not all that polite or helpful.
