Dr. Janice Lynn Kassawat, OD

My whole family has been going to Dr Kassawat at her Costco office since May 2000. The Good: She is a great optometrist with a nice personality. Your appointment begins by filling out (or updating) your health history first, then taking a peripheral vision test and a glaucoma test, and finally getting an optical exam and glasses/contacts fitting with Dr Kassawat. During your exam, she listens carefully to you and is very thorough. We have never had any problems with her prescriptions. Her prices are great, especially for people who only wear glasses. We haven't ever had optical insurance, and she is lot cheaper than most optometrists in private practice. Dr Kassawat introduced my wife and I to multi-focal and bi-focal contact lenses, and keeps us up to speed on the latest technologies in contact lenses. Also, if she sees any optical/medical conditions needing treatment, she provides a referral to specialists in the area. The OK: The receptionist changes every couple of years. … Some are more polite and can handle the pressure better than others, particularly when the office is very busy. The optometrists who fill in for Dr Kassawat (when she takes time off) have been terrific sometimes, and not so great other times. They change every few years. General Comments: The best way to get an appointment is to walk in when you are at Costco. Trying to call them to schedule an appointment is hit or miss. We sometimes have to wait before starting an appointment (e.g. begin peripheral vision and glaucoma tests) - it mostly depends on the number of people trying to schedule a future appointment. There is typically a short wait after you complete the peripheral vision and glaucoma tests until the optometrist finishes her optical exam of the previous patient. Also, if you need to have your eyes dilated, you will have to wait 15-30 minutes for the dilation eye drops to take effect (we typically walk around Costco during this time).
