Dr. Jasjot Kaur Sahni

(Note: Dr. Sahni also has an Orland Park office location). I was referred to Dr. Sahni after a long on-going mouth pain condition that other doctors just haven't been able to figure out, and was told that she was known to "think outside the box" and has come up with remedies and even cure-like approaches for many hard to treat conditions. I went to her twice, and overall would not return and was not impressed for a variety of reasons. Her personality was just "okay". Her office staff seemed scatter-brained and various times just seemed to have no idea what was going on in regards to patient pre-care. Office notes were (at least with my visit) logged into paper or notebooks, not even a computer as has been standard for probably the past 20 years. Just seemed strange. From BEFORE you are even seen in the doctors room, the front desk required payment (usually around $270 for the first visit, perhaps slightly cheaper for subsequent visits), and Dr. Sahni accepts no insurance. At first,… credit card or cash was accepted, but my second and last visit there, ONLY CREDIT CARD. As to why, I have no idea. Just came across as locking in your payment was first priority here. My first visit, Dr. Sahni came up with the remedy to try (okay, no problem - will try most things especially if a doctor recommends) crushing up 2-3 Xanax, mixing it with water, and swishing it around/gargling it. Obviously, even if this worked you would be going through much more medication to use which means she (or your regular doctor) will have to be prescribing double to triple the amount of pills you may need - whether your insurance covers that cost or your pharmacy even fills them that often is a different story. Needless to say, that remedy did nothing. My second and final visit, Dr. Sahni seemed to not even remember me or my case even though I had seen her about 4 months previous. I again had to go over my condition and all my symptoms again, and during the conversation Dr. Sahni said something to the effect of, "Well I'm not a miracle worker" which seemed crass and rubbed me the wrong way. Just not something you say to a patient who's coming an hour to see you after being highly recommended that SHE deals with the exact condition(s) I'm seeing her for. Of course, nobody is a miracle worker and I realize that, but just seemed off-cuff for a doctor to say that to somebody... it wasn't like this was my 16th visit and we had already tried 35 different things, only my follow-up. The next and final treatment Dr. Sahni had me try was this special-made concoction of mouthwash which included Lidocaine. It had to be made special by a pharmacy in Elmhurst and cost around $75 for a very small bottle (think about the size of a sample bottle of mouthwash). My common sense was screaming at me that this - at best - would be "masking" the problem instead of treating it. This was just a tad more potent than perhaps a bottle of Chloraseptic at your local pharmacy for around $10. I tried this a few times and it numbed my throat for several hours, never treating the condition I had - it was awful. At times, it felt like my throat wanted to close up. My other doctors told me to discontinue doing this ASAP, as well as the "crushing of the Xanax" method. I am not saying Dr. Sahni hasn't helped other patients with different conditions, but she def did not help me and her office set-up/wacky staff and protocol/her weird ways would not warrant me seeing her again. According to her credentials, she just seems to be a dentist and/or has a 'general dentistry' background - this isn't at all to criticize, I am just stating this in a matter of fact way. One final side-point: During our conversation in our second visit, she even suggested (not sarcastically, but in a matter-of-fact way) gargling Tabasco sauce, explaining that, "sometimes you can fight fire with fire". Again, even at best... how would this method treat (or treat the cause) of my condition?? You just can't gargle Tabasco sauce day in and day out the rest of your life and burn your mouth out. This is the kind of stuff I could find on google for free, not the sort of brainstorming or treatment options I expected to hear when I was recommended seeing her, and spending the amount of money I did out of pocket. She was not terrible and I will not at all say that, but I really - OVERALL - could not recommend her. Please at least take everything into consideration (distance travelled, out of pocket cost, your actual condition(s), and reading all reviews) before initially trying this doctor.
