Dr. Jasmit S Brar, MD, MD

Born in Fairfax, Jasmit Singh Brar, M.D. returned to the Virginia area to join National Spine and Pain Centers in early summer 2018.A University of Virginia graduate with bachelors and medical degrees respectively, Dr. Brar completed his internship and residency in anesthesiology at New York Presbyterian Hospital – Weill Cornell Medicine. In 2018, he finished a Tri-Institute Pain Medicine Fellowship at Weill Cornell, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center and Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City.Dr. Brar was drawn to the anesthesiology field through the desire to provide individualized and compassionate care for patients undergoing critical surgical procedures. While pursuing his medical studies, he witnessed the impact of patients’ chronic pain conditions inspiring him to seek additional training in pain management.“The greatest joy as a physician is to see your patients get better,” he said. “As a pain management physician, I am driven to improve my patient outcomes so they …can enjoy their lives and not be limited by their pain.”Over the past several years, there have been technological advances in the field of neuromodulation which are exciting developments for Dr. Brar. “We can now provide patients novel therapies in the form of spinal cord stimulation, dorsal root ganglion stimulation and even peripheral nerve stimulation,” he said.When approaching medication management as part of developing a treatment plan, Dr. Brar believes each patient requires a uniquely tailored approach to optimize their daily functions. “Medication management is just one facet of a well-balanced treatment regimen and should be used to enhance functionality while at the same time mitigate the limitations from chronic pain conditions,” he said.Patient interaction and involvement is essential to the success of an individual’s treatment plan and functional outcomes. “I strongly support patient-centered care as I see my role as a partner in their care,” he said. “My goal will be to empower my patients with information so we can collectively make appropriate treatment choices.”An avid outdoorsman, Dr. Brar enjoys hiking, camping and nature walk. With an immense love for Washington, D.C.-based professional sports teams, he cheers on the Capitals (NHL) and Redskins (NFL).
