I had a fairly sizeable, non-cancerous tumor on my thyroid that Dr. Jason Newman of Penn Medicine in Philadelphia removed for me. My father had a similar thyroid problem 20 years ago, and during the operation they cut his vocal chords, causing him to lose his voice for 6 months, so I was concerned about the procedure and sought out the best possible medical care. I cannot praise Dr. Newman and his staff at Penn enough. During the entire process of pre-surgery appointments, the actual surgery, and post-operative visits I found Dr. Newman to be friendly, helpful, knowledgeable, obviously an expert in his field--everything you want in a surgeon. While my father has a rather large scar across his throat, the incision Dr. Newman used is less than 2" across. It's been less than 2 months since the operation, but already it has faded tremendously. I imagine in another few months it will hardly be noticeable. On a scale of 1-10, I would rate Dr. Newman a 15. Penn has always… had an excellent reputation in the Philadelphia area. Now I know why. Kudos to Dr. Newman and his staff. Highly recommended.

Dr. Newman has been very thorough, honest, and informative when caring for me. He typically takes time to explain what he is doing before he starts, tells me what he is doing as he actually performs his tests, and then explains to me what his conclusions are. His office is clean. His staff are nice. It's easy to make an appointment. Overall, he's been a great doctor and I would recommend him to my mother.

The waiting part before seeing Dr. Newman was a little impatient for me and my husband. But, once we were called in we were treated in a very professional manner and our tension was put at ease. Dr. Newman is great answering questions and really seems to listen to all of our concerns. He is an excellent surgeon and I would highly recommend him to anyone.

Dr. Newman is one of the most caring and knowledgeable doctors I have met. He saved my life.

The time that you spend waiting to for you appointment gets paid back in the time that he spends with the patient. He doesn't seem to mind answering your questions. I think that he understands that he's seeing people who (if cancer patients) are fairly shaken by their diagnoses, and are very concerned about their own mortality, and he's quite patient in addressing your concerns.

Simply, the BEST.
