Dr. Jason D Schaechter, MD

Dr. Schaechter was condescending and rude. I asked for a very light level of sedation and he told me he couldnâ??t do it â?? that I would get the standard dose and â??thatâ??s it.â?? Then, without letting me get a word in, he launched into what he thought would be (to me, at least) an intimidating listing of the medications he was going to give and their effects. He was wrong â?? I have worked in pharma for more than 15 years and I am very familiar with those meds. When I expressed surprise, and told him that I had always been able to â??go lightâ?? in the past (I have to get frequent colonoscopies), he very condescendingly told me that I probably did get the full dose, but that I "just didnâ??t remember it, since those medications are known amnesiants.â?? I didnâ??t forget anything â?? I checked my records and it was exactly as I said. I got the feeling that he just didnâ??t want to deal with it and had pre-decided, before meeting me and without checking my records, that he… would just put me to sleep and be done with it. A sleeping patient is easier than one who is awake and (gasp) may require additional attention. At this point, I had decided Iâ??d had enough of his attitude, requested that he not be present in the room at all, and declined his services entirely. The doctor performing the colonoscopy gave me a slight sedative himself, but, again, I was awake the whole time. Everything went well. However, imagine my surprise when Dr. Schaechter then turned around and billed me $750 for anesthesia services he had not performed!! Not goodâ?¦
