First time being at this location, staff was friendly. Doctor was great. First time I’ve ever gone to a doctor and I actually feel the difference on the shots that he gave me. I would highly recommend him to anybody. Thank you.

I went to Texas Orthopedics, Sports and Rehab Associates to see Dr. Jason Somogyi regarding a long-standing right shoulder injury that has worsened over time and is now interfering with work and activities like tennis. The office staff was courteous, efficient, and professional, and the intake and X-ray process went smoothly. Unfortunately, my actual visit with Dr. Somogyi was very disappointing. I came in hoping for a thorough evaluation, meaningful discussion, and a clearer understanding of what may be causing my shoulder weakness, pain, and recent loss of range of motion. While Dr. Somogyi is clearly very well credentialed, I did not feel he was particularly engaged in my case. He appeared to enter the room with a fairly fixed assumption that the issue was a rotator cuff tear. While that may ultimately be correct, very few questions were asked about how the injury originally occurred, the type of pain I was experiencing then or now, what activities aggravated it, or what had… prompted me to finally seek care. During the physical exam, movements were accompanied by repeated statements of “No pain?” rather than open-ended questions that allowed me to explain what I was actually feeling. Because of this, I found it difficult to communicate that I was experiencing pain — inflammatory and limiting — and that my goal was not only diagnosis, but also understanding and a path forward. An MRI was recommended since the X-rays showed no structural damage, and while a steroid injection was mentioned, it was dismissed without much discussion. Physical therapy was not meaningfully addressed until I asked, at which point I was given a printed sheet of resistance-band exercises. There was no discussion of shoulder anatomy, what might have happened at the time of injury, how compensation over time may have contributed to my current condition, or how strength and function might realistically be restored. I also expected some visual assessment of the clear muscular imbalance between my shoulders, but this was not examined. In contrast, I’ve recently had excellent experiences with primary care and internal medicine physicians who took time to explain both theory and anatomy, which made this visit feel particularly rushed and impersonal. I left the appointment still in pain and without much clarity about what is actually wrong or how best to proceed. While I am scheduled for an MRI, I walked out feeling more uncertain than reassured. I truly wish this visit had gone differently. I would welcome a more thorough follow-up or even a do-over, as I was hoping for guidance from a physician of Dr. Somogyi’s qualifications. At this point, however, I am continuing my search for an orthopedic specialist who has the time and interest to work with an active 66-year-old patient who is not ready to give that up.

I would highly recommend Dr Somagyi. He is very knowledgeable, and highly skilled Physician. He performed my carpel tunnel and trigger finger release surgeries. Would definitely recommend!

Dr Somogyi is the best. He is extremely competent and professional. He is honest and open. He is the best at what he does. We are lucky to have him in Austin.
