Dr. Jason Craig Wickens, MD

I have a VERY different experience with Dr. Wickens. I recently had a medical emergency- a partially detached retina. This must be dealt with IMMEDIATELY. As it happens, Dr. Wickens was the ONLY doctor my insurance covered who would take an emergency appointment. Because there are not enough docs in Vegas, they are all very scheduled- and the clinic Dr. Wickens works with is no exception. It is the fact that this doctor, who cares about people, is willing to take emergency appointments that creates some long wait times. I would rather give my health care to someone like this-- and be prepped for a wait. I brought music, plenty of magazines, and understood how lucky I was to be seen so quickly. Yes, the doctor is busy- but at NO time did I think he was recommending anything that wasn't absolutely needed. And yes, an eye exam like the kind I had involves a lot of moving of the head and so on- but I certainly cannot fault the doctor for needing all the angles, and for attempting to… get it done efficiently. In sum, Dr. WIckens is a seriously competent and caring physician who I completely trust with my eye care, and to whom I am returning for follow up care- despite the fact he's on the other side of town. Thank you, Doctor, for fitting me into a very hard schedule, and for staying well after closing hours to make sure I got the treatment I needed. 5 stars!

He hits patients and hurts them mentally we should meet

There is not enough space here to list my bad and very painful checkup and laser treatment for a torn retina so i will just say if you like your dr to have a cold, rough, no bedside manor, makes you feel you are a bother to him, no explaination and if you ask he will tell you to go to the website as he did me. I felt so stressed that i didnt go back for the recheck with him and went to dr judy lio in the same office and had a good experience with no pain at all, a far cry from what i felt with dr wickens so if his bad qualities then hes your doctor!

Under the hands of Dr. Jason Wickens I had an eye surgery on Jan. 27. I'll start with the post Op exam. I was in the waiting room with 10 people waiting for appointments with Dr. Wickens. Four of them were quite vocal about long waits. In a voice loud enough to be heard I said." could I tell my story?" Sure, all said. Ten days ago, I was in an exam room here and Alex said." with your right eye can you read the chart. All was well. "Can you read the top line with the left"? "I can't see the chart". How many fingers do you see"? I said," I can't see you." After a thorough exam Dr Wickens said we need to do a surgery Thursday for a possible detached retina. I have white coat syndrome and syncope and I have passed out getting a tooth filled. Imagine when I read that two tubes would be put in my eye and that I needed to be conscious. I accepted that I would be blind and met with Melissa. his scheduler. to cancel. She was quite convincing, but it wore off and the next day I met again for the… same reason. Dr. Wickens called that evening at 7:00pm after his workday. He was so reassuring and explained what I would experience. I decided to go ahead the next morning. All of the personnel the next day were beyond professional and patient oriented, Katherine, Jessica, Kacey, Jetty, Alex, Samantha, Vivian and of course Dr. Wickens and Dr.Hoang all were exceptional in their skills. All I could share with those waiting was last week I was blind and now I see

Dr. Wickens was very forward and honest. This was something I was not ready for when my husband was ready for surgery. My husband came in with a piece of metal that was so close to his optic nerve that there was very little chance that he would have his vision in his left eye. Dr. Wickens was very honest and prepared us for the worst. My husband would lose his sight. That was not the case! He was a miracle worker and I will state that to anyone that ask. My husband is back to 20/20 and may have some blind spots but is completely healed. Dr. Wickens is amazing and I would never go to another but him!! He saved my husbands sight and I could not be more grateful!

I took my mother to see Dr. Wickens and we are never going back. He was rough during her examination, talked with his back to us the entire time, and acted like he couldn't be bothered with her. He spoke in a rushed, condescending manner to her and was just plain rude. Worst experience with a doctor we have ever had.

It is true that Dr. Wickens does not spend a lot of time with hand holding and expressing sympathy. If you are looking for that you need to go elsewhere. However, I cannot fault his knowledge or technique. Actually, I have learned that if you are getting a lot of attention from him on a personal level you are probably in deep water. If he is coming off as as cool and impersonal you are probably not in that bad of a condition. He has personally returned my call to his office when I had a question about my condition. I believe he is trying to do right by me.

I regret coming here every time. Dr Wickens barely spends any time with us and when you are talking his mannerism suggests he doesn't have time or care what you have to say. If you have paperwork that needs to be filled out for work or a disability accommodation expect it to take a while and hopefully you won't have to have it redone. LONG WAIT LONG WAIT LONG WAIT. You'll sit in the waiting room for about 15 min while you fill out your paperwork, and then they take you back to be seen... NOT. You go to a SECOND waiting room that is cramped and packed. Wait about 45 min and then you see the assistant. Then they take you back to the cramped waiting room where you wait for another 45 min with your eyes dilated Until you see the doctor. Then if you need retinal pictures or anything else it's back to the little waiting room and on and on. You will be here for a minimum of 2 1/2 hours. If your lucky.

Very rough during examination. Going to another dr for a second opinion. Poor bedside manner to younger patients. I understand getting a good look at patients eyes but why be so rough.
