Dr. Javier A. Placer, MD

Dr. Placer himself is good the two times I met with him. His staff is horrible. 3 times they tried to have my insurance pre-approve a procedure, the insurance denied it each time because the staff didn't give the insurance company all of the requested information. Each time they had me come back, pay another co-pay, just to be told we'll try again. I paid them $120 in co-pays for absolutely no service. That could have been handled by phone. Won't be going back.

Dr Placer and his staff are amazing. I have seen Dr. Placer for 7 years and he is caring, communicative and an excellent doctor. His entire staff , especially Gaby are patient, helpful and understanding. I highly recommend Dr. Placer and his staff.

I will start this review by saying my one interaction with Dr. Placer he seemed very nice and to care about helping me. Unfortunately his office staff is the worst I've ever seen. I had a follow up appointment scheduled for 8:30am on a Friday. I showed up to my appt and after paying my copay and checking in that Dr. Placer was not in the office today and was offsite doing procedures. I asked if these were emergency procedures or did they know ahead of time he wasn't going to be there. I was told they knew ahead of time. I then asked if they knew ahead of time why wasn't I called and informed this. They had no answer. They then asked if I was ok seeing their nurse practitioner instead of the doctor. Well I am all the way here already so why not. So I sat back down for another 5 minutes. They then come to me and inform me the NP does not have the tool needed to read my disc that has x-rays on it and that I will now have to reschedule for another day. So at this… point I need to say that when you sign all of your paperwork with them you authorize them to charge you $50 if you miss a scheduled appt. So if I am held to that standard, what standard should they be held to if they miss an appt??? After spending almost two weeks trying to get with the office manager they finally reached out to me. I explained that I wanted a refund of my copay from my missed appt and that I wanted them to cover my copay for my next appt for all of my time and hassle. For the appt that they cancelled I missed 3 hours of pay at work, drove 45 minutes each way, and spend about $6 in tolls. I don't think asking them to cover $45 based on how much I was put out was at all out of line. They proceeded to give me a song and dance about how they have to collect a copay and can't waive it. Great then cut me a check for $45. I was flat out told no. So this office, who was totally in the wrong, is willing to let a patient that will be seeing them for years to come walk away over $45. With customer service like that I don't see how they are still in business.

Dr Placer keeps me pain free having major back problems and lung cancer, I find him very pleasant and always listens to his patients

It is very easy to give a poor rating for a doctor on this site. Not entirely fair but that's that. I have gone to this practice since Sr. Doctor Flynn was practicing. Of course I have had to wait at times, that is normal for most medical practices. And I was sent home from having an epidural one time, only because my sugar was too high. Given that, I find it unbelievable that Dr. Placer would send any patient home with a life threatening blood pressure. I think having used this practice for 50 years should say something for the physicians.
